Hi Dave, the photos you've put up are a great idea, showing the component parts and the completed item - most useful to other modellers - thank you for sharing your method.  :-))

Ray.

You're making good steady progress Dave and it's good to see her out in the open. The RAS fuel pipes look great as well.  :-)

Thanks Ray, still not got my head around how to move the Helo from the Hanger, hence why I’ve not painted or fitted the helo tracks.

Hmmm, maybe something along the lines of Chris (frogman3) HMS Tiger hanger door mechanism?

That's an impressive looking Ski Boat  {-) ......[yea, that is a Nick Name for the Class of vessel].....

With 4 GE LM2500 gas turbines engines putting out a truck load of kWs....they are capable of 35+++ Knots [or sufficient to maintain the equivalent pace of the fastest Aircraft Carriers]

Maybe secure the Helo with sea straps [as per original] and leave it permanently parked on the flight pad?

[in 1987, one of these vessels attended our 75th Naval Centenary ........she had 2 Helos embarked with one secured in this flight pad position when she entered Sydney Heads]

Hi Ray,

Been trying to work this out for some time now. MBM members have give me some good ideas, but they all have there own issues with making them work.

I’ll get there one day.

I believe they use a trolly that sits under helo, as it lands it plugs in via a pin, if you could trap the trolly so it doesn't lift until inside the hanger and slides freely otherwise, like a monorail, a pully system underneath with magnets could move it top side.

Hi Warspite
Correct the use a trolley which the helo is attached then it move to the hanger .

I plan to make a master of the trolly and cast it, as I think I will need to have a few to Allow for modify.

I don't know whether the strength of the neodymium would be enough to pull the helo and trolley along through the deck - others may be able to suggest the type needed, its whether when its being pulled over the deck cover it will not pop off , and how to move the magnet to do the same, it would mean the magnet would have to slide freely towards the edge (port or starboard) but the pulley would have to run along the edge without interfering with the deck cover.

like this, except when the magnets are under each other as long as they freely move, with the pulley trolley under the hanger the cover should be clear to remove, though shown square - the under deck magnet should be on a pulley wheel to prevent it jamming between the rails, just a thought you may have a better idea.

Alternatively, a fixed magnet on an arm that moves left right by a couple of degrees and the other end running in a slot under the hanger, the pulley moves the arm along the slot via a sail winch so the arm moves from under the hanger to where it parks on the landing pad, similar to that above but turned through 90° clockwise.

Thanks Warspite, food for thought. I’m going to get down to solving this, this week as it’s stopping progress on the Hanger and flight deck. I’ll post progress later. Once again Thanks

Update so far , Well This is the mark II of the helo track.

This version i made a Chanel from 1.5mm plastic card sized so the 10mm dia x 3mm magnet was free to slid. Also the track follows the deck PE track.
I ground a slot In the magnet, so the cable could Attached by glued. In fixing the cable this way reduce drag. The pulley at the stern end was machined from nylon rod.

The underside of the track has plastic tubing to guid the cable. This cable will be attached to a 6 turn sail winch.

The helo tractor skid also has a 10x 3 mm magnet inside.

These magnets have a separation strength of 1.8 kg. My reason for using such a strong magnet is due too , when the track is Installed under the flight deck the helo tractor skid is 7mm away from the magnet. Pre testing should these magnet had the strong mag field that bridge this distance. I’ll post  Further update as this progress.

Well done Dave, you've practically replicated the Magnorail system at a fraction of the cost.  :-))

will the track swing out of the way when accessing through the flight deck, i.e. is it pivoted ?

Thanks Chris,
This working function has been a real pain, I have been looking at what I’d need to do to have working hanger doors. But on these ships the door fold up in four sections, not got my head around how to make this work.

As for make the rotors turn it can be done but I would have to take the stowed Helo of and replace it with one fitted with motors. As it’s not possible the make the helo fold and un fold it’s rotor.
