Chris,
They are two aerials that are fitted to both sides of the hanger and have a motor/gearbox so they can be driven from vertical to 180dregs.

HI Dave thanks for your answer im now a little wiser on that but on another forum im on they are disscusin whats the difference between a ship an a boat an i said well big war ships have a draught line on the hull an not just a plimsole line an on a draught line there are numbers so it can be seen how much water draught the vessell is drawin but on a boat there wont be any an by the way on my R/N HMS NORFOLK the numbers are in meters but on my nimtz they are on in feet are they in feet on your burke ?

Chris,

I was always told that Ships carry boat but boat don’t carry Ships.

The depth Markings are in ft based on if the draught markings numbers I’ve seen picture of on actual Burke draught markings, if these were in meters it would mean that the marking would read as 35meters. Also I don’t think the Americans have converted to using metric at this time.

Well over the last few weeks I’ve put up the garden new fencing and cleaned up the garden, the Boss has now let me get back to the modelling.

So over the next few days I’m going to have a go at making the MK 53 Decoy launchers. USS Roosevelt has two sets mounted between the funnels.

Simple looking....'MK 53 Decoy launchers' .......but space-age defensive warfare O0  .

We have them on our Australian ANZAC Class DDG's

I suppose I would have looked after them as they are certainly Above Water Weapons....

Yes Derick,
Very basic and simple as you can see when they are reloading the system. All the tech must be in the decoy it self.

Well the masters have been made, will take a mould this evening. I’ll be using the bases I made for the chaff launcher as they seem to be the same design.

Nice bit of casting Dave and the little bits being attached help to visualise the finished article, once the paint goes on they should look good.

Dave, I am sure you would not be surprised just how many visitors to Model Boating exhibitions, or just by the Pond, are/were serving Sailors on or from Naval vessels.......or even associated personal from shoreside

So standing back & observing those viewing the detail on the models can sometimes tell a story

Those castings look sharp  :-))

It is a little difficult to comprehend that each of those white tubes can shoot, position and project a full size invisible 3D image representation of the real vessel ... :o  !!...it appears to be a generation [or 2] further away from Heat-Seeking or Chaff Cloud technology]

Yes, invisible to all except an incoming Missile of the Foe

Derick, yes I fully agree, When I was a member of the SWA we were always amazed at how many ex and current naval personal we meet.

There knowledge however in some cases was out of date and we had enjoyable conversation and a good exchange of knowledge about the ships and the models.

With this build it would have been nice to visit the ship,(if it visited a U.K. port)  but in today’s environment even visiting Royal Navy ships at open days will for a time, not going to happen.

Had a little free time today so made this, but yet again we have had a bereavement in the family again, so time for modelling is going to have to stop.
