Painting over oil based varnish
« on: August 18, 2019, 01:13:28 pm »

Hi.

Are there any gloss spray paints,(rattle can), that are safe to use over traditional oil based varnish that will not react with the varnish itself ?

Hi Mike,
If its firm and not flaky I would you can just give it a good rub down to key it and then a good wipe clean up and prime it just no Cellulose type paint. but may be wait till others have a say as I might be wrong.
              Regards Howard.

I would imagine that anything described as 'enamel' would do the job. Tamiya also make aerosol acylic paints although I'm not sure if that is solvent- or water-based.
