Adjustable Motor Mount
« on: August 03, 2019, 01:08:27 pm »

I know it can be done without but I want to look into using an adjustable motor mount for my 35 and 42 brushless outrunners.

From other posts I've picked upon those from Great Planes but it looks as the adjustment on those is for the length of the motor as they are intended for fixing to the bulkhead in planes and not for altering the angle to get precise alignment.

Does anyone know of any mounts where you can adjust the angle? Not worried about the cost within reason!

Thanks, Chris

To keep your propshaft in line wouldn't it need to be adjustable in all 3 dimensions? Shims sound much simpler to me!

Those all look capable of tilting the motor but if you tilt it you alter the height of the end of the motor shaft so you need to be able to adjust the height as well & obviously direction matters so you also need to be able to move it sideways.

It might be better with a flexible drive but I don't know.

Personally I like this sort of thing for small motors like 540 size. All one piece so no fitting problems.

No, vertically would be dealt with by setting up using a solid coupling in the usual way. I want the angle adjustment to make it easier to fix down to the base, though it will probably be easier to shim/pack out a fixed mount..

Thanks for the pointers on different mounts, food for thought. As anyone used one or have you stuck with fixed ones?
