Thought it might be the shock of seeing a decent wrapper for the mag at last can just dump the plastic and shred the address

Never seems many new posts on it anyway!  Doesnt seem to attract much attention.  Perhaps because so few value books or mags nowadays.

...presumably modelboats.co.uk?

Martin and I have an agreement. We don't criticise each other's forums. Model boating needs all the help it can get and sniping isn't helpful.

Yes, the Model Boats Forum isn't as big as Mayhem but it attracts a different but overlapping membership and it isn't a general chat room like Mayhem.

There is room for both.

Personally I preferred the grey wrapping.

Just checked the dictionary, I wasn't meaning to criticise in that sense! I'm just always surprised how few seem to know or refer to it. Particularly the technical articles on the site, which are great for beginners!

The Model Boats Forum is intended to support the magazine and is publicised within it.

As for the wrapper Longbuild  I was ok with that bar having to remember to scrape or paint the  address off it.

Simple I use them to post things out, store mags or just destroyed them by putting my thumb through the address,  stretching it and ripping it to bits.
Can not really use them to post items out now as no longer private, but will find a use for the plastic.

Sorry to talk about another forum but whats the very personal dig "social media" made against GG on the 31st?  Was important enough for someone to say, but not big enough for them to announce what it's about or point where?

https://www.modelboats.co.uk/forums/postings.asp?th=144460

Someone felt to stir the pot more, but not point to the ingredients after, which makes it seem even worse.  Is it "tabolid" news??  Seems a bit cowardly, but maybe just niave?

The post on the "Uuver Forum" (love that term) refers to a my post on a "members only" club site on Facebook.  I had some information that I felt would impact on their activities and so told them about it.

This was a private correspondence for the members of this club.  The decision to make it public, or as RST has pointed out "semi-public" was not mine.  Still, it's about par for the course is all I want to say.

alas not always in a sociable way.

Jaymac,
"annuvver" (like it too!) website?  Could you please identify it.

Yes, I may be a touch paranoid but I try to be honest and never fail to reply appropriately.  Which means private communications are replied with a private response and public comments get a public reply.

The general rule is that ANYTHING you post on line can ultimately find its way into the public domain - and usually does.

Colin,
Very true, that's why I prefer private responses to private communications.  But, sadly, not everyone does.

Enjoying the holiday?

I am a member of said site, when I log on it accepts me as being logged in, but when I try to view any posts it then dumps me and tells me if I want to view I have to join or be a member and log in, tried to raise this with mods but as soon as I comment all the above happen, very frustrating

Never seems many new posts on it anyway!  Doesnt seem to attract much attention.  Perhaps because so few value books or mags nowadays.
Model boating is a tiny hobby and there are at least 3 forums covering it plus Facebook. That's a lot of space with not that many people to fill it. Contrast this with the biggest railway modelling forum with over 25k signed up members, a similar number who drop by but don't post and many hundreds of new comments every day.
As for not valuing magazines and books - if the model boat community doesn't want to support its one and only newsstand magazine, the one that anyone can pick up and acts as an ambassador to many of the public, then they can't complain when the whole hobby drops dead and all they have left is bitching on Facebook. Still, I suppose they will be able to gloat and whine that there isn't a magazine, even if they won't buy it or contribute to the content.
