Is anyone familiar with the 'MRW Sound Generator Boards' as sold by Leeds Model Shop and a few other shops. In particular the version containing steam sounds. I'm concerned that the board uses power from the receiver to drive the sound chip and speaker. The advertising blurb has no mention of current drain or wattage output, only that the speaker must be minimum 8ohm.

Looking at the supplied information it is powered from the receiver throttle output.
This will power an 8ohm speaker to a point after which if not loud enough a powered amplifier will have to be fitted between the speaker output terminals and the speaker

The higher power amplifier will probably be driven by either its own battery or the main battery.
At its best, an 8 ohm speaker running on 5 volts will draw a max of 625mA, 3 and a bit watts, or about the same as a servo.

Hi There,
MRW have their own website type model radio workshop into google and it will come up I have purchased a few of these sound units and switch unit etc... over the years they all really work well.
Mike Ridley is a really helpful guy and you can contact him directly on the site by email and I’m sure he will return your email answering all of your questions, hope this helps out
