I have been there and done that but it is not easy to do and takes a bit of time. I fitted mine but some of my boats need a full travel (not center) to work its a pain.  :-))

Did'nt know that, i've got to calibrate the speed controller again so if it is a pain i'll put it back on the ratchet. One thing i did find was in full throtle forward the motor starts hunting if thats the right terminology ie stop start stop start but that was with the ratchet fitted and might have been an error i made.

regards Jack.

I'm thinking of buying another tranny so i can have one with a center unit fitted and the other without.

as an alternative its possible to file a small vee into the central position on the ratchet track on the stick unit , the small metal ratchet will then drop into this , which enables you to know where the central point is ! ive done this to all three of my sets , the planet and my two spektrum dx6is , even our four year old great grandchildren can manage to use the planet set in a tamiya car they play with !

Where did you get the 'spring return kits'?

I just bought a Planet T5 last week and didn't realise the left stick wasn't spring loaded to centre.

Went to my "local" model shop and bought the conversion kit. The owner of the shop offered to fit it for me (free) but that would have been a 20 mile round trip to fetch the transmitter (should have took it with me >>:-( ).

Decided to fit it myself and spent a frustrating hour trying to work it all out. {:-{

So, a quick search on here and found this thread.

PLUG's photo's at the start of this thread were all I needed and the job was completed in 15 minutes - well done and many thanks to PLUG & Model Boat Mayhem -  :-)) :-)) :-))

Regards,

Ray.

Raising this from 2013 as it came up on a search. Looking for this as I had a some trouble with the center position ( left stick) on the Meteor and Scotia. The centering arm/ spring hasn't been available for years according to SHG Models. So I filed a good groove in the dead center of the ratchet as described in reply 5. Worked a treat

Just bought another Planet 5 off eBay with the left stick has centering both ways. While packing it away till  need it I found this among my other Planet 5.  Nice one  :-)
