i am just about to start Cadercraft’s Milford Star.  The GRP Hull has plate and rivet detail that to me feels far to pronounced.  Does this need to be sanded back to a more realistic level or will it soften when I paint it.  Wilhelmn and Dale who have both built this ship before I would love to hear from you with advice on this build, please!

I think it's designed that way so after 15 coats of paint ( ) you still get rivet detail.....

Martin, wow, beautiful Boat.  Annoyingly you don’t even get a profile in the drawings.  I need to build the stand first.  I haven’t bought the engine yet, so much to do.  I think I may take the detail back a little.  I use rail aerosol paints for the Hull so we shall see.  Thanks for the photograph.

Have been looking at the Hull, it looks like the Hull top edge is up to 5mm proud of the moulded edge. In places 2mm in others, which means it is going to get messy!  Lots of sanding.  Looking at photographs I think apart from the top edge I will leave the detail.  The standard of white metal fittings is really good though.  The drawings aren’t to scale though and there isn’t a hull profile.  Lots to do.

Well I have started, I bought a Dremel 4000 and it made short work of the Hull trimming.  I sanded with the Dremel back to the line of the top edge and then hand sanded it back.  I am really impressed with the Dremel, I used the extended lead which made Control really easy.  I may have used a too coarse sanding disk at first but damn it was good.  Now I can start adding the rudder and prop shaft followed by engine, rudder servo and speed controller.  I must look at adding photographs, resizing from the iPad is the issue.
