Hi, could someone give me a clue on how to wire up servo, battery etc for a steam launch. Do you need a speed controller or not. thanks in advance

No you don't need a speed controller.  All you need is the receiver and the servos to operate rudder and whatever functions you need for the steam plant.  Plus a small battery pack to power all of these.  I used a 4 x AA holder (6V in total) which did the job.  Just make sure you buy one with the correct connector for plugging into your receiver.  Plug all the servos and the battery pack into the receiver and away you go.  You might also want a switch in the +ve line from the battery pack to save plugging and unplugging from the receiver every time, but that's about it.

Thanks very much Greg that's great. I was thinking along those lines but wasn't sure as never done a boat like that before. Cheers.

Better to use a welded receiver pack with 4 NiMhs for power. The battery packs with loose cells are prone to develop  dirty and rusty connections in damp conditions which you may get in a steam hull. Welded packs are rechargeable so you do not have to keep changeing the batteries.

That Said on my team launch, I use a standard 4 tray Battery pack holder, and can use both Rechargeable battery's and normal batteries, which is ever at hand, and have soldered a standard connector onto the end for the RX, not gone rusty yet and been in over 8 years. Run it using old batteries until really dead..
