The message they sent you was:

Hi, Martin

I have revised the wording that is more informative and appropriate for all

I have been speaking with mtroniks and what I said is exactly what mtroniks are working on

So please replace as follow's:

Hi, All

It has come to my attention that Mtroniks have had to revise the specification of their M500 motor

Mtroniks have informed me that the correct specification for the M500 is as displayed on Mtroniks website
( 12v RPM = 5500 no load speed ) 4700 at maximum efficiency

The original M500 ran at: 12v 16000 no load speed ( 14000 at maximum efficiency )

I have been informed by Mtroniks that their source of the original M500 motor had ceased trading therefore they had to find a replacement and at the moment they have had to replace it with the latest version

They are ugently trying to source a motor that is as close to the original version but for now modellers need to be aware of this change

Some retailers may well have some of the original version and the data on their webiste could be correct but it would be best to check with each retailer which version they have

The old version came with bullet lead's and suppresion fitted and the new version don't have either supplied

Also the new version has splines on the motor shaft and a regular 3.2 coupling insert will not fit without using an abrasive substrate to remove the splines

I have advised Mtroniks that the new version may well prove to be a usefull version due to
its low rpm that will be ideal in smaller models that do not depend on high rpm

They will possibly end up having two version’s,  One with a high rpm and another with the lower rpm

So whilst Mtroniks are working very hard to find a solution please check with your retailer....

HI all Just tried to re size and post the spec sheet for this new motor hopefully this will help with any future issues will keep trying for you. If his new motor does not meet your needs the look at the M F A 540/1 3 pole.

The "new" motor has similar characteristics to the 545 motor.
Useful in medium size scale boats and tugs.
Not for fast boats though.

Good point. Might stop the uninformed from putting buggy type motors in their scale slow speed models...."I can always use the throttle control to get scale speeds." says the 'wrong motor apologists',or put the correct type of motor in the boat in the first place!
And Mtroniks, sort it out chaps, seriously...

Interesting. I had all of three minutes running out of a brand new Mtroniks M400 last week (yep, different motor size I know) before one of the brush wipers decided to snap off and strand the boat in the middle of the canal marina. This was using an 3 cell LiPo and I did wonder whether the claim that the motor was fine with 12v was really true.

Voltage gives revolutions but, unless ridiculous, should not cause the broken brush wiper. If we assume that the motor was not overheating wildly then this is most likely a faulty brush quality issue.

I don't think that this proves a changer spec for the M400 motor.

If you have had a faulty motor then surely would it not make sense to contact m troniks explain  what your battery power you were using and explain what happened.  If you had a bad motor then surely they would replace it. The M 400 motor seems to have a spec very similar to the M F A 380  motor. Very high revving and power hungry motor both rated up to 12 volts.

TBH I think the boat this motor went in is cursed anyway (the Mtroniks was to replace a faulty straight out of the box OEM motor!) for a variety of reasons, and the hull might end up buried in the garden with concrete poured over it!

It was a project that was picked up as “it only needs radio gear that I already have spare”. One of those...

IMHO 12v is way too much voltage for these little motors. I'd not use more than 7.2v, or a 2S LiPo. Anyway, who on earth wants no-load revs of 20K? That's close to ritual abuse for off-the-shelf cheapo brushed motors. If the brushes survive more than a few minutes at this speed then the bearings likely won't. If you really do want to boil the lake then my advice would be to go brushless.
