Dumas US Coast Guard 36’ Motor Lifeboat in rough seas
« on: September 21, 2019, 03:36:23 pm »

For my fellow Lifeboat enthusiasts:
Our club’s recent steering event was cancelled due to high winds and seas. But it was a great day for a model of a USCG Station Chatham boat!! My 36500 RC model is 27” long, built from the Dumas kit, with a bunch of improvements.. ( Build thread on RC Groups.)

This is the 1/16 scale Dumas kit of the famous 36500, backdated to her 1952 fit, the time of the SS Pendleton rescue.

Here’s a link to a 1 minute video of my model in rough seas...

Really nice model and very realistic video.  But wouldn't like to be the guy in the bows though.....!

Enjoyed watching this one. The realistic motion of the model as it tackled the swell lends itself to the 'really at sea' scenario - thank you for sharing.

Regards,
Ray.

Thanks!

The key to a good action video is to use the slow motion setting.  It gets rid of the too-quick bobbing about, which makes a model look too toy like.

Here’s a shot of the boat in calm water, at our annual day/night run 3 weeks later:
