It looks complicated but;

1. I'm ham-fisted!
2. It's self jigging,
3. Same as the Q3,ie. 3mm

Thank you.

I am guessing that 3mm is the structure ply but what about the bottom, sides & deck?

OK, it's obvious once you see it...... with the prop guard / rudder bracket glued in place.... I can't fit the rudder... "Doh!"

I NOW know why TugTower said; "Been working on the detachable part of the skeg for rudder access today....."   {:-{
https://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,64715.msg687467.html#msg687467

Possible fixes that present themselves to be are:
1. Break it free and fit the rudder and not tell anyone,
2. Bend it a bit, fit the rudder and try and bend it back leaving the rudder pertinently in place,
3, Cut down the 'up' bit so give me more fiddle room,

I don't like option 2... i doubt i could do cleanly but I do want to paint the hull first.

I hoping you guys & girls will have other / better ideas?   :embarrassed:

Hi Martin. You won't be able to bend the brass out to fit the rudder then bend it back. You'll need to bend the metal back further than the rudder would allow so it can spring back straight.

*Probably* bending metal and straightening is actually my job.

I would break the bond, clean-up and re-fit. I had same scenario on my mini loyal build. Did it all right and committed but forgot to fettle the prop so the boss is too close to rudder leading edge. Dooh!

Best suggestion.... remove the guard then make a detachable one like i did from scratch...

You know it makes sense lad  :}

pin the rudder to the tiller post so it (the tiller post) can be separated from the rudder?  pull the post, remove the rudder...

Morning All !  :-)

Still working on my tug.....  Yesterday, I spent 2 hours looking for the servo support bracket... only to work out that the wood pack supplied is different to the instructions.   >:-o

Instructions:

Actual:

I seem to be missing a "Servo Basement"!    {-)

On the plans above, what is the item left of the description on the actual first sheet, it says Qtug V2 and then 2 cradles above it, then the item, it appears to have 4 holes, with room for a cut out to suit a servo possibly

Hey Warspite!
All right?   :-)

Having a third look, these are the actual laser cut sheets in the box, again different from the plans and listing photos....

These are my sheets.... the bits circled "seem" to be the servo mount.... 1 mm ply, good choice!  ;D

Reply #85 appears to be different to the sheets you show, for instance the parts circled in the last photo appear to be closer to the edge than on #85, oops - sorry cabin fever, didn't read the text properly, as you said again different from those in #85

Evening all!

Struggling a bit with the rudder linkage here....

There's not enough room to get a full +- 45o throw and I've stripped the gears of this servo already!

I'm thinking a pulley system....... or a double arm 90o bell crank.... I've seen a slot and pin mechanism somewhere,
.... any other ideas?

Looking at the pics the only ondervation i v
Can make is the following

Buy new decent micro sero
Set the arm of the servo to the middle of it's arc
Cut down the throw of the servo with your transmiter if you can not do this then maybee a serbo limotrr of some sort to limit it's travel poss an action servo morph....what i personaly think has happened is that it has gone hindge bound...in other words rudder can  not move any further but servo can hence stripped gears....just my 2p worth

Martin,
         Can you swap the servo around in its mount?  Assuming you fit the servo and tiller arms square to the linking wire (which ought to be done for even rudder throw), then this would increase the angle between the linkage wire and center-line of the hull and give you more space between the tiller arm and hull.

Also, do you really need 45 degrees of rudder movement?  Moving the connector one hole inwards on the servo arm looks like it would still give you enough moment.

"Buy new decent micro sero" - I crashed past the 'normal' ends stops via the use of a servo test - video in edit.

"do you really need 45 degrees of rudder movement?" - I think your right GG, I think Ron Dean once told me, 'that past 30o, your rudder act more as a brake than steering'.... did I remember that right?

i remember it as 35o but either way, it is much less than 45o
