Hand brush painting
« on: October 03, 2007, 08:49:48 am »

Hi, I am trying to hand brush paint some styrene with Humbrol enamels...

1) I'm using a flat brush in an attempt to minimise brush marks, but there are still very noticeable brush marks. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to thin the paint - what do people usually do to get a good hand painted finish with a hand brush? Do you need to rub the final coat down to get rid of brush marks?

2) The styrene surface, which appeared to be perfect prior to painting, now shows fine lines at the joints. Should I be priming/filling the styrene prior to the colour coat? What products do people use when painting with enamels?

Thanks,
Peter.

Best to spray Halfords primer on first, sand it down when dry and then paint on your Humbrol in thin coats! Best results are acheived if you paint several thin coats as apposed to one or two heavy coats. O0

Is there a brush paintable primer anyone would recommend? - I am playing around making small fittings and don't really want to be spraying an aerosol in my flat  :)  Thanks, Pete.

Humbrol No. 1 is a primer! Look up Phoenix paints on the web as they do a very good primer in quite a large tin.
