Hi All[/font]

Just ordered my son a Sarick Hobbies vac formed WW2 British Air Sea Rescue boat. He wants to get into RC boating. Just wanted to know if any member has built one of these and if so, what type of installation did they use. I.E motor, propshaft prop and rudder. I have a spare transmitter and receiver he can have, plus a 7.2v battery pack. Hull is 24" by 7".[/font]

Cant find much information on the build. It looks quite basic, but I think it will be a good starting point for him. Havn't seen the instructions, so I dont know what type of running gear they recommend. Hence this post.

Good morning,
there is a comparable build in the 'Marine modelling' magazine of january 2016. This is the Sarik Avon fire boat. In this build they used a 385 motor via a 2mm prop shaft onto a 30 mm plastic prop.

Did it perform like the pictures here on a 385? I would have thought that you needed more power.

I really don't know as the article left one rather with out a conclusion. As the hull is very light , i surmise that a 385 is more than enough. There is little point having a boat overpowered.There is a compromise between realism and physics.
As i said you are more than welcome to the article.

My little 1:48 PT boat plastic conversion runs really nice on an old ripmax speed 400, 10a viper ESC and a 7.2v 1600m/ah "mini" ni-mh battery pack. Half the hull in the water. Perfect wake though it is a bit heavy. I used an m4 6mm slimline shaft and 25mm 2 blade "high speed" propeller. That's a bit under 2 feet but probably a fair bit heavier proportionally speaking. Picture 3 got me thinking about an order. I like these cheap base -mouldings. Something and quick and easy for something a bit more realistic can be achieved with minimal effort.

Thanks for the reply. My son wanted to have a go, but he wanted a military boat and at this price £32 seemed the best option. As you say with a bit of effort they can be made to look quite respectable. It's a similar size at 2 feet long. I have the radio gear for him and a few other bits.

312 is a BPB whaleback, 2564 is a Vosper 73' and the part built one is a Miami. All are circa 1/32 > 1/35th scale. The Vosper is mine and I have used 1/35th parts on her without a problem.

I'll find out the motors etc for you. The BPB and Miami are both brushless but different sized motors and props. My Vosper runs a Raboesch 23.5 mm 3 blade brass prop and a 385 motor off eBay. A 12 volt all metal 385 which runs at 13,000 rpm no load. I'll dredge the details out. It is better than the usual toy 385 you see being designed for industrial purposes.

I’ve dredged my notes out and the Vosper motor is a 380 not 385. I did a test of the motor and the no load speed with a 3S lipo is 12,500 rpm. Tethered in the water the 23.5 mm prop was turning at 11,300 rpm and pulling 3.1 amps. Ignore the specs in the eBay ad.

The Miami in the photo was on the motor below with M2 shaft, 2S lipo and a deans marine small (21 mm) prop. Also an HK esc.

It is about to receive the 380 motor and 23.5 mm Raboesch with Mtroniks 10 amp esc and 1.5ah 3S lipo. The same as the Vosper.

The trick with Hobbyking is to make sure that they are all coming from the same warehouse. UK or EU are fine but I try & steer clear of global where possible.
