1:12 scale scratch build of Solent Lifeboat. The tunnel sw
« on: May 24, 2020, 04:30:51 PM »

Hi Guys,
This is my first scratch built Lifeboat project.
I have vertically finish the hull (plank on frame) and am at the stage where I am fitting propshafts and motors.
I will be running 2 Mabuchi 555 motors off 12 volts.
My query is which propellers should be ok to use baring in mind I only want to achieve a scale speed of around 9 knots.
The tunnel will restrict propeller diameter to 45 to 50mm maximum and I understand a 3 blade in brass is suitable.
Shafts have a 4mm thread.
I understand they can be quite expensive so would ideally like to get my purchase correct first time.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Best Regards.

Cornwall Model boats sell the Raboesch props  40 inch 3 bladed at 12.46 each for a right and left handed ones?  Check their web-site for other sizes?

Bear in mind the general rule of thumb: not much bigger if at all than motor can diameter and no more blades to number of motor poles.  General "fag packet" rules which are fairly well established.  Not to knock custom props but there are some very good ones available from the aforementioned source unless you want absolute scale / perfection.  Sorry, can't be more exact this time.
