A bit of a catch up on my Mersey build. Firstly the boat was broken down into its component parts ready for painting.

I was amazed how many fittings and bits and pieces I've actually made over the last few months.
Next the hull and cabin were given 3 coats of filler primer ( flatting back between coats.

The hull was then given 2 coats of white primer before being given 3 coats of gloss white then masked off and 3 coats of Oxford blue. The hull painting from start to finish took about 2 weeks.

The main cabin and extension , which has the rope lockers and survivors cabin hatch, was then given a couple of coats of orange.

I wanted to replicate the anti-slip surface that is on the top of the cabin and also the cabin extension. I used a 'rust' effect spray paint that I picked up at a car boot sale. Once everything was masked off both surfaces were given a couple of coats of the spray and once dry the masking was removed and everything was given 2 more coats of orange. The holes in the engine covers will have dummy bolt heads fitted.

The deck was then given the 'rust' treatment and sprayed dark grey and the toe boards were painted Ford Polar Grey.

Next I can start what I enjoy most about the build , that is adding the details.
