:-)) awsome love the detail, how do you manage to paint the small parts which appear to be glued into place with such crisp clean edges..
this is one head ache for me..

Thanks for your comments Trucker. The majority of the smaller details are hand painted off of the model then fixed using a low odour super glue so there is minimal 'fogging' of the already painted surfaces.

Yes Trucker I push fitted a short piece of brass into the wood and put a dab of grease onto the end of the rod that is being 'turned'.
The last of the larger deck fittings ( the capstan) has been made ready for painting.

Next I am going to tackle the rails that wrap around the stern of the boat.

It's taken I while but I have eventually managed to make and fit the stern railings. These were made from brass rod and the tapered stanchions I made earlier all soldered together. The only problem I encountered was managing to get the two halves to mirror each other.
The brass screws will be replaced with steels ones during final assembly.

It's been a while since I last posted but I haven't been idle.
Work has continued on the Mersey on a few different fronts.
Firstly the vents from the engine room that come out under the flying bridge have been made and fitted. They were made in two halves so the bottom half can be painted the color of the deck and the top half orange without having to mess about masking them up.

Next a start has been made on the angled stanchions , again using the method explained earlier to 'turn' the taper on the vertical part.
The top bracket has been added but the holes for the d shackles not drilled. Also they need middle brackets adding , these will be added once they have been ' dry fitted ' so they are all the same height.

I decided that I wasn't going to put a crew inside the cabin so I added the blackout curtain (which I forgot to photograph).
Once the inner roof ,which houses the LED's, was added I made and fitted the roof. I also added some working spotlights which were made from some bits from my spares box. These have some surface mounted LED's fixed into them and are quite bright.
The holes in the roof are for the various aerials and have nuts fixed behind them so the aerials can be removed for transport.

The remaining basic stanchions have been made and temporarily fitted. They now need their middle brackets adding and all the holes for the D shackles drilling.

Thanks Andy. I've struggled a bit with the brass work as it isn't my strong point.
A couple more of the deck fittings have been made.
Firstly the capstan foot switch.

Secondly the 4 chain release mechanisms.

All the stanchions have now been finished and holes drilled so they can be bolted to the toe boards. The various deck fittings have been placed in their locations to give an overall feel of what she will look like when finished. Next I will be tackling the folding mast.

A start has been made on the folding mast. It has been made in three separate parts which form a 'ladder' 10ba bolts act as the pivots.

The last 3 pictures show the mast assembly and how it folds down.

Next the radar/lighting platform will be added.

Hi Chris.

Hope the photos were of use to you  :-))

Wee question. I'm at the shaft/tube stage and as per PM, am going to go with the short tubes but whilst studying the plans, I noticed there is a slight angle on the shaft centre line. In the measurement give between FR14 and FR15, it is 646.5mm and the measurement at the stern gives 600mm - difference of 46.5mm (3.8mm in 1/12 scale if my calculations are correct)

Maybe I'm getting paranoid about the rivet counters tutting and taking sharp intakes of breath {-)  but did you factor this into your shafts when setting up the alignment?

I'm hopefully going to cut out 50mm and 55mm discs on out laser cutter in the school (hopefully working now) to act as 'props' to assist with alignment purposes.

It seems to be forever since I last posted any progress on my Mersey. Work has been progressing I just haven't had time to post any of it on here. Hopefully over the next few days I will be able to bring the build up to date.
Firstly the platform for the radar / navigation lights was made and fitted.

Next the upper section of the mast ,which includes the VHF aerial, was made and added.

Next the 'gas struts' at the base of the mast were made from brass tube.

And finally for now. The frame that houses the drouge and coxwains back rest was made from brass rod.

Next the folding windscreens were made. They are engineered so they fold down with the mast as on the full size boat and also they fold independently to each other. The gap under the screens will be covered by neoprene 'skirts' at a later date.
Firstly the larger one that is attached to the mast.

Next the smaller of the two which folds forwards

And finally for now the top mast has been added to show how everything folds down to get her back into the station.

The large whip aerials and their struts have been made from brass tube and rod.

It's been a while since I last updated my Mersey build. But it's all the bits and pieces take all the time.
Firstly I decided to replace the rhinestones I used to represent the bolt heads with resin dummy bolts from Historex Agents. I think they look a lot better.

The life ring holders have been made.

The liferaft and it's frame have also been made using plasticard.

The fire hydrants have also been made using various mediums.

And family for now the hammers ( that are used to release the boat from it's carriage ) and their boxes have been made ready for fitting.

The next thing to do add all the sub assemblies and fittings I have made to make sure everything fits and to be able stock of what needs making. Then the boat will be completely dismantled to allow everything to be painted.
