twin brushless setup......im confused
« on: November 28, 2019, 03:30:14 am »

ok, i have a hull that will use 2 brushless motors.
my understanding is that i need a battery for each motor, plus a speed controller for each motor.
is this correct?
also can i run these 2 escs off a y lead from 1 channel?
plus......can i also connect a magic box in line to use differential thrust for the motors and rudder???

ps spektrum dx6i gen 1 is the tx i would be using
if possble is there a wiring diagram i could use!!!

you do not need two batteries, but "most people" will, to simplify the wiring.

you DO need two esc's to properly control two motors.  for simplest operation, you can run both esc from 1 channel using a y lead

you can use a black box that will take steering and throttle, mix it, and control the steering and throttle of two motors for differential thrust.

that black box can be a real black box that connects to the receiver, or that black box can be mixing (generally called elevon mixing or v-tail mixing) in a computerized transmitter.  i have done it using both methods.

i would not be able to tell you if the dx6i can do the mixing without seeing a manual, and since the current model dx6i is in reality their third or fourth gen model, i doubt if i could find a v1 dx6i manual online anymore.

if you search for "r/c airplane v-tail mixer" on ebay you will find a dozen examples, starting at 3 pounds

Hi Pete, I tend to use left up/down stick for left motor, right stick up/down for right motor
Tank steering. You will be able to turn in in its own axis no mixers just your own steering ability.
I also use a dx6i you will need a esc for each motor though.
