Maquette's Marie Morgane.
« on: December 29, 2019, 02:37:14 pm »

Hello all, I recently bought an old kit of Maquette's " Marie Morgane " a French trawler, unfortunately most of the instructions are missing. The problem I have is for the "U" shaped pieces that fit along the sides for winching up the nets (sorry I do not know their correct name) on the drawing it shows 3, two on one side and one on the other but in the kit I have 6 yet they do not seem to double up together to make 3. Has anyone made this kit or does anyone have a set of instructions that I could get a copy of. As this is an old kit I know this is a long shot but any help would be great.

Hello Tam,

The 'u' shapes will be the 'gallows' (gallas).
They're used to shoot and recover the trawl nets.

I think the model you have (Marie morgane) is a lobster boat and wouldn't have any gallows.

I suspect they have been included accidentally.
One of Maquettes other models does indeed have 3 gallows.

Hope this helps...

Regards,
Ray.

Edit: does your model have a round or a square stern?

Thanks for your reply, the "gallows" are part of the kit as they are shown on the boat on the box lid but not close enough to be of any help.

The current New Maquettes kit Marie Morgan does NOT have gallows. See my build log here https://www.thercmodelboatforum.com/t1286-la-marie-morgane

Hi, its very very similar to second one the Marie La Anne. It is the same just a slightly different wheelhouse but the same "Gallow's" as mine. Have you or anyone else built either of these ?

Nope, I did build the 'Marie Amelie', which is the stern trawler version of the Marie Morgan lobster boat (both of which are on the same hull).
I think I still have the plans for the Marie Amelie but doubt they'll be of any use to you.

Are the gallows on yours plastic?
If they are they will have been cast in 2 halves, hence the 6 pieces you have.

Hope this helps...

yes I do have 6 and they are plastic but they don't seem to fit together very well to make 3 pairs. Very confusing !

Here's a thread that gives you good information about the gallows, with detailed photos as well.

Happy New Year Ray and also to everyone else, thanks for that link, I now see how they are meant to be fitted. In my ignorance of fishing boats I thought they where meant to be fitted the opposite way around but now thanks to you I can see they are like iron I beams that have been bent into a U shape. Problem solved, thank you.
