Brushless motor mouts
« on: January 02, 2020, 12:40:40 pm »

Hello all,
I would like to put a brushless motor into my next boat, Where is the best place to get a mounting for it ?.
Assuming I would be best with a proper mount, the boat will be about 2’6” long, single shaft.
I usually make my own, but I’m thinking as they are more powerful than the brushed I’ve been used to, I might be better to buy the proper mount.

You'll find that 28mm outrunner motors will fit into the standard glass-nylon '380/400' sized mount, while the 35mm motors will fit into the 540/600 size ones. Here's a 35mm motor in one of my models.

Hello Dave,
Thankyou for that, is it sturdy enough, I wondered about those, but I thought it might shake a bit.

If there's something out of balance then yes, it will shake. However I've used these in nine models so far and had no significant problems with them. I think the Leopard outrunner motors are better than the Turnigy ones in that it's easy to re-assemble them with the shaft at the other end. That means that the rotating part of the motor is on the opposie side of the mount from the coupling which seems to be a more sensible approach.

That’s handy as it’s a leopard I will be using, thanks for your help.

Hi Dave.

Just browsing the site and came across this bit of info regarding the shaft.

Would you recommend an Outrunner to have the shaft extruding though the mount and connected to prop-shaft (your photo 2) rather than at other end (Your photo 1) - more in terms of balance etc?

Both my Outrunners have the shaft extruding at the ‘rotating’ end

My models use both methods and I really can't tell any difference, but the second one seems intuitively 'more sensible' for some reason. I'm quite happy to be 'shot down' about this!
