 Hello
I am scratch building a 1/6 WWII British 2 man Chariot R.C submarine and I need a pair for figures for it.
Does anyone know where I might be able to just buy the pair fully geared up as near to official WWII British frogman gear?
Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks George

Search Ebay for 'Action Man Diver'. There are many to choose. Some cheap and some expensive vintage.

I just put
action figures ww2 frogman
into a search engine and a lot of hits came back.

It might be a good start point as many action figures are 12", be they Action Man, GI Joe, or one of a multitude of other cheaper version of that type of figure.

Don't Mountfleet Models sell a chariot kit c/w divers?  Not sure of scale -website is a bit sparse on details.  But they may be able to provide, I know they don't advertise everything they sell (my Moderator hull from them isn't listed). Maybe drop them a message and see if they can help.

Hello
Thank You ALL fro your replies. I have sent the Chariot kit maker an email about his figures.
I have search through Canadian ebay and there is NOT much of a selection of Action Man divers.
If anyone can, can you send me the links to which the above were referring to?
 ThanksGeorge

Not too sure what you mean George, but sure I read the MMM alluded to on both mentions. I thought out there very heavy and have to lighten the figures maybe according to other builds.

Hello
I checked the ebay link above, Thank You. A lot of these are the small GI Joe figures. I did find a few of what I think might work for me. I also email the company that sells the chariot model kit and asked if they would just sell me a pair of figures. The ebay prices, wow quite costly.
 Thanks for your help. George

Hi George,
Is it not worth just buying a couple of figures off e-bay (I've seen a few that would be suitable for just a few dollars) and converting them? Plenty of info on the film "Silent Enemy"

Hi Tony
Thanks for the reply. Not sure of the costs yet. I have seen a few on ebay that caught my attention BUT they need new wet suits and gear to look like the Chariot crew. For now I await a reply from mount fleet models in the U.K.

Hi George,
Not wet suits!!!The suits were dry and rather baggy! Often worn over jumpers etc. because of the cold so certainly not figure-hugging! Plenty of scope for layers of filler. You could almost use figures with tracksuits as the starting point, suitably painted with resin especially since you're working with 12" figures.
Tony
PS If you search for a thread called "Crew needing redeployment" they're some Dr Who 3.5inch figures that were modified for a Victorian torpedo boat.T

I would investigate carving figures out of some polystyrene foam, then give them a coat or two of epoxy resin to toughen the skin a bit. Very inexpensive and a bit of fun to make.

Models of chariots tend to be a bit top heavy, and the owners have often applied a keel to get them stable, so I would make every effort to keep the figures as physically light as possible. Using foam the figures should actually raise the centre of buoyancy a bit.  Action men would probably be neutrally buoyant at best, as they tend to be quite heavy.

I've seen suits made up using various fingers cut off rubber gloves. Sadly the one pictured suffered some reaction as can be seen by the cracking on the suits.

Although most models seem to have the suits modelled in black, a visit to the submarine museum at Gosport revealed that the suits were more of a tan/beige colour. perhaps they've faded with time and tide, although no doubt they darkened once wet.

Hi Subculture
Thanks for your reply and pictures. Gives me something to think about. Any more pictures of those figures sitting on the Chariot?
