I just fitted my Forest classic mini steam whistle and the first 6 or 7 times it was fantastic but then suddenly stopped and just produced steam. Any ideas?

Three possibilities to my opinion :
   - easy to fix : the hat part of the whistle is unscrewed or too screwwed
   - easy to fix : limestone or equivalent before the vibrating membrane
   - problem : the vibrating membrane peeled off

I think it’s the first one as it’s brand new. Will unscrew and gradually tighten till whistle blows again. My suspicion is that it came loose. It’s an amazing sounding whistle.

You are right, great steam plant  and this whistle can effectively be un/screwed

You will find that mouth of the whistle, that is the gap between the base where the steam comes out and the "hat" is critical for sounding good and at a certain pressure. The rule is large gap = high pressure needed to sound. And in the case of your whistle type you also need check that the hat is perfectly concentric with the base.

Thanks, yes I’ll have a play and see if I can work out the sweet spot. It’s a lovely whistle for sure

Still no joy with the steam whistle. Blows out plenty of steam but no whistling. Tightened the hat, unscrewed the hat, tried everything. Brand new whistle. Worked twice when first fitted then nothing.

Normally 40 but have tried at 60 and also 30. Just lots of steam despite adjustment.

I suspect either a foreign object inside he steam passages or a misaligned bell. Try it on air while adjusting, makes things much easier if you don't burn your fingers.
