Hello again,


Came by a billings alpine model recently. On inspection of hull, there is no waterproofing to the hull in/out. Could I have have advice on the best way to do this. I think outside would be better as not all areas inside are available and would need to dismantle parts of hull and don't want to do that. The external hull has been painted but jut over the wood. I'd obviously sand the paint down. Any help appreciated .

I expect you will get lots of advice but you should try and balance painting on the outside with the inside.  The theory being that dampness on an unpainted surface will expand the wood or distort it and cause the paint to lift from the inside.
When you say you cannot reach parts on the inside I have on occasion swilled varnish around the inside of a boat and poured out any left over.  If any parts of the hull are sealed in then hope for the best, it may well be OK.

I would sand the outside and prime it with a 50-50 mix of fiberglass resin, lightly sand and
Cover with 75gm fiberglass weave and two coats of 75 %resin to 25 % denatured alcohol.
Then sand to required finish.
That works for me.
