I haven't used it as such but recently used a sanding sealer on a printed deck. It dissolved and smudged all the deck markings. Check first with any sanding sealer on a bit of scrap wood with printing on it.

Very true and it can be laborious applying multiple coats. If the wood can be kept horizontal finishing resin will fill and float in one go

It all depends on how many boats one is going to build  :-)

This is good stuff:
  https://www.amazon.co.uk/Liberon-SS250-250ml-Sanding-Sealer/dp/B000TVK42Y/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=sanding+sealer&qid=1583958467&sr=8-3

This is shellac sanding sealer. The main differences I have found with this over cellulose sanding sealer are a slower drying time, on average about forty minutes as opposed to about ten or fifteen minutes. Lower viscosity, so I ended up splashing a bit more all over the workshop! Methylated spirit to clean up rather than cellulose thinners. The lower viscosity of shellac sanding sealer helps its penetrating powers on timber, but seems to need at least two coats.

Just to confuse, I still use both types!

Ohh yes, I forgot, it doesn't smell anywhere near as much as cellulose sanding sealer!
