This is about the best shot I have of the Type 675 jammer cabin on HMS Manchester in the mid to late 1990s.  The jammers were removed by about 2000 but the cabin and aerial platforms were left as they were.

There is a side shot that might help if you are making the aerials but I can't remember which ship

If I had known you needed them then I would have shared them Chris but then again I wasn't using Mayhem in those days (did it even exist?) ,I do have quite a collection of shots mainly onboard Gloucester when she was in a docking period in 1997 and then again in refit around 2000.  As I was building a 1/32nd scale model I needed more detail info on the upper deck fittings than you might usually look for when working at smaller scales.

If anyone else needs a picture of a B3  T42 fitting from that era just let me know

Every picture I have of Type 42s, batch 1, 2 and 3 throughout their lives do not have this equipment on the aft cabin wings. I can only presume it's position there was a test and deemed not suitable. Personally, unless you are modelling a ship that was known to have it and based on that particular time, I wouldnt add it.
Just my opinion though.

Gents,
Like many bits of kit whose purpose is Electronic Warfare in nature, the 675 Jammer antenna were rather expensive. Therefore, there would not of been enough units purchased the equip every Fleet Unit (T22, T42 and Invincible Classes) all of the time. Vessels would of only been issued these when deploying to areas deemed to be higher risk than say, the North Sea or English Channel. Deployed Ships in the Gulf would be candidates for certain as an example.
Incidentally, the commercial name for the 675 was Guardian, but the RN, I believe, used the name Millpost.

Nige's bit about when Type 675 was actually fitted onboard is all too true and applied to lots of other bits of kit on RN warships - I can still remember how the much less capable Type 670 jammer fitted on Type 21s in the late 1980s to early 1990s was almost  always useless because there were never enough high power amplifier boards available.    I also found this short statement on-line in a Weapon System Tuning Group newsletter regarding  the phasing out of Type 675:

"The Type 675 Jammer was fitted to major RN ships from the late 1980s onwards. By the turn of the century this jammer was, how-ever being removed from RN service with no plans for its replacement. Essentially the nature of Naval operations were changing and greater emphasis was being place on improved hard kill missile systems."

This information is interesting to know because anyone building a Type 42 with cabin structure would likely have wondered what the 'wings' were for. I know I wondered why they were there and was pretty sure they werent just for decoration. As mentioned, all the pics I have of these cabins on T42, none of them have anything fitted. The pic in this thread is the first time Ive ever seen anything mounted on the wing.
