83-85mm OD tube?
« on: April 18, 2020, 04:38:27 pm »

Hi guys
Anyone know of anywhere that i can purchase some plastic solid (not flexible!) tube, or anything that is as light weight with the following dimensions!
Outer Diameter: 83mm to 85mm (anything within this diameter will be good!)
Length: 350mm (obviously if it only comes in longer lengths that is fine as i will just cut it!) ..on flip side if it only comes in shorter lengths i will also just buy a few & join them!

Ive been looking for a long time, only place i have found is ebay from china which is for a 500mm length but it costs £20! this is all i can find so if need be i will just buy this but it is a little on the steep side price wise just for a little plastic tubing..so any help much appreciated if anyone knows of anywhere cheaper!

Any ideas?
Or if anyone who does 3D printing could maybe print one that i can buy :) ?

Cheers!

Tube or solid?
Tube = You could try Plumbers Rain water Pipe.

If  a 1mm tolerance is ok, then 82mm downpipe is readily available from just about any plumbing merchant.

If 'solid', we used to buy nylon rod from RS (other suppliers out there) without going through the old company archive (used as plastic strand separator on a strand drier - R&D) I cannot give the dimensions, but I would assume the diameter was about 80mm

i.e. something like
https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/plastic-rods/1847119/ white (this one is at the start of the list I selected so is under sized)
https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/plastic-rods/1935323/ Black (and equal or larger diameters are more expensive)

Although not purfect it can be machined to the O/D you need, though expensive

'Now I realise I need a stock of shims.'

I use old sets of feeler gauges...
