Info wanted
« on: April 22, 2020, 05:47:50 pm »

Can someone help to identify this very interesting ship or barge by the builder Don Diment. I found the picture in an old model boat magazine from 2009.  I cant find any more info about the boat/barge or the builder. Hope someone can help me for my hopefully next project! (sorry for the bad picture)

There is an email address just after the three published phone contacts. I suspect multiple recipients. Try looking for a facebook page.

I would speculate the this is of a vessel in service on the Clyde and the source of information is from photos or a museum collection and the photo might have been taken by JimG at an SFMBC regatta.

That was just pure speculation and nothing more. The photo credit would be on the boat mag and I think Don won a Scot Fed prize, or a 2nd, around that time.
I was thinking more along the lines that some present Ayr club members would know if he built models with a local connection and how he picked his subjects. That could have confirmed it wasn't worth pursuing.

Just had a quick check, I don't have any photos from 2009 regatta, also I never sent any of my photos to a magazine.

I been in contact whit a club member and he couldnīt help, the builder  passed away last June.... so all info I got is, "it  is a French barge (the Merdex) which I believe was used as a barge towed behind a tug. As far as I know the barge was used for moving human waste material on the larger French canal and river network"

Perhaps the name on the model is down to the builder's sense of humour.

It has flavours of naval architecture not necessarily common to UK and based on different aspects on each part of it from the blurry pic. It still looks interesting and from the tug, some scalable dims.
