Hi Andy,

I did try and warn you about the MRW sound board when you said you bought one (not to expect more than it is).  I still defend it for what it is about the size of 2 postage stamps!  Still good for small models and "pug and play" but I can't tell much difference in sound between the program options.  I found speakers make the most difference, as does experimenting with tubes / boxes to get some base but thats the same with any sound board I've seen for boats.  I'd still defend the MRW board for what it is and the size it is.  I have MRW and the equivalent you listed from component shop and found very little difference in volume on the same speaker by the way.  But then I'm biased and still have one JJC sound board left -and I've never heard anything come even close to that ever since but they're long gone now!

Coming along nicely otherwise though!

(model shop leeds are delivering to me with RM within about 18hrs from placing order at moment -I think they developed an anti-matter / time-warp drive, maybe free energy as this is absolutely unheard of before ock-down!!!!)

Thanks for product comparison  :-))
Like I say it's the brushless set up that drowns it out but I do class this as a "small" boat 22"

Leeds model shop are using your friends DPD for me {-)  but that's because RM won't transport paint.

BTW the shop is re opening next Thursday. Locals should see website for details. Will be closed Mon Tue from now on to keep up with mail orders

Trading update - Thank you for your continued support. Our shop and showroom will re-open to the public Thursday 18/06. We will be closed Monday's & Tuesday's for an intertrim period while we deal with an unprecedented increase in the amount of orders we are processing. Please place yours orders on the website or for enquiries email us we are extremely busy and working with limited staff. Email using the contact us form at the bottom of this page . Our telephone lines hours are now off until further notice. Thank you for your understanding in this difficult time. Online orders remain unaffected and will be dispatched as normal but Royal Mail is slightly delayed so select DPD if you need it quickly.

Weather is total pants so its either rain or no paint holding me up.

Finished the green, a little bleed onto the white in places but easy to sand off before total lacquering.
Just have the deck to mask up now.

Re paint bleed, I have learnt from several places (and done it myself  :} ) that if after masking, you spray more of the original colour over the area, then potential bleed occurs in that colour and not the new colour you are spraying.

So, after spraying the white, apply your masking, spray some more white and once dry, add the green. Clean up is minimised to the usual raised line of colour caused by some spraying.

Thank you Hama  :-)
Slow reply Ian because I hate posting without having something to share.
I read your post at least three times before it sank into my thick skull  {-)  Great idea thank you for sharing and I will try remember for future  :-))

So now after a very long delay Hermes "not their fault" some paint arrived so I could finish the deck.
I masked it up John Boyd style to save masking around every rib  O0

Now the ensemble for effect. Still a way to go but nice to have a play. Posts will slow down considerably now as the end approaches but I will be picking up on the Shannon (in the background) here onwards

The colour scheme evolved to be as it is now but no one has commented neither here nor on Facebook as to whether it is appropriate but I take consolation from it being from my own minds eye and having not one negative remark. Silence is often golden  :-)
Really the most interesting part of a build is making it your own, Billings with this model just created an example but it is impossible to find a boat that this kit is modelled on

The gunwale ended up white purely because it was the least labour intensive but my fisherman friend said it's fine. Had he said otherwise I would have changed it  %%

It looks fine!  More intrigued about the winch and presumably the towing lines wrap round the net drum?

I looked these boats up last week out of curiosity and I could find more scallop boats matching the general look than trawlers. It's still an attractive french inshore boat anyway.

Thanks Rich I've tried to be unique just like the lobster boat. Rigging isn't complete yet but yes the winches let out the net and the trawl boards simultaneously.

EDIT
Presumably the large diameter of the net drum will mean that more net will be deployed faster than the trawl boards which should end up in the water almost last to open the mouth of the net.

I was pleased with the effect of adding 2mm ss washers to the stanchions. Nothing here is glued but just push fit and gravity. I thought I had a blemish on the green when I saw this but it is a hair  {-)

Hi, when you look at the pic of a net I posted, the net goes out first then the trawl boards are on the outer edge of the net. They're there to keep the net open as it moves forwards. So yes, trawl boards would be last out first in I guess.  Nets wouldn't be hauled in full presumably. "Cod end" emptied progressively but I'm no expert.  That needs a separate winch.  I think billings maybe did some simplification but no matter, it looks a nice model

There is a pic on tinterweb of a boat with striking resemblance (at a distance) out in the English channel during the scallop wars a few years back.  It might even have been green!

I think they also use the trawl boards to pull the net off the drum thus only needing brake release on the winches. The net will end up behind the boards just by the boat moving forwards and then the trawl boards will be at the front.

Managed to get the satin lacquer on.

Which enabled assembly to a large extent ready for ballasting. It seems I need something over 600grams in addition to the batteries.

Those windows are nearly as clear as my Portgarth  {-)

Having shared some static pics of my Boulogne Etaples (which I bought used and gently restored), here is a shot of it on its first time on the water under my ownership. I am now tempted to buy the kit and sail one I have built instead!

I was tying to post a link rather than upload the picture, finally figured it out! You must have viewed it while I was editing it. Certainly looks good on the water.

I would definitely go with building your own, I really enjoyed it and for any normal modeller it can easy last up to 6 months. I was working every day for hours for near 5 weeks to do it so relatively quick. Still finishing touches to do but so have all my models  %%

P.S. that's a great photo as well  O0

This is how it works with ropes in place for changing batteries. This would only be for charging as the two batteries should provide way way over an hour running.
To switch the esc on would not require the cabin to be removed, just lift the hatch slightly at the from edge.

Mine did an hour and half on the water yesterday with a standard 385 brushed. It was windy, so I needed a little more power on than usually necessary simply for the rudder to overcome the weather cocking effect of the wind. When I recharged the (3300mAh) battery, there was at least another half hour's worth of charge left, so I reckon your two together should give you six hours on the water, probably more as your motor will be more efficient than mine. It's a pleasant boat to sail, but six hours….
