H.M.C.S. Snowberry - Revell 1:72 Flower class corvette
« on: May 12, 2020, 07:12:03 pm »

got this kit, seems complete, it’s got as far as putting the prop shaft in, rest seems to be on the sprues, it’s just dirty, no box, and the manual looks like it’s got pretty damp,   Anyone interested? It possibly can be posted, but the post will be dearer than it’s worth!  Kits in Oldham, http://www.cbrnp.com/RNP/Flower/MODELS/Revell_Flower_inbox/Revell_Flower_inbox.htm

Fair enough cancelled Alan but may be of interest ? I believe this to be the kit in question.

Yes, that’s the one, many thanks, makes a nice model, All got very confusing,  I only wanted to delete  it, so I can put it on properly, so yes, it’s a 1/72 scale kit, probably matchbox, instructions have suffered a lot with damp,   It is NOT the one sold on Amazon for £32  that ones 1/144 scale,   It can be posted at cost,

Clearly not and a bargain posted  :-))  but now you think Matchbox rather than Revell? that's more confusing  %%

It will be cleaned before post, and I believe instructions can be downloaded, I am not sure of the condition of the flags, which I thought were transfers, but seems they are silk?

Think mines the Revell, your link says it’s the same colour mouldings, but the faint picture I have is the Revell

Hi

I have the original Matchbox kit, which I have started (5o+ years ago! I don’t rush my builds  {-) ). I have now returned to the hobby and will take up the build, I always intended fitting it with r/c to join my r/c 1/27nd scale Perkasa, which I still have, I just need to add new r/c and batteries too.

As I understand it the original kit moulds were lost in a fire at the Matchbox factory. Matchbox then remade the the moulds but with slightly less fine details than the first moulds.

My Matchbox kit is complete and boxed, though the box is age/storage damaged, the kit and instruction are all there.

If anyone needs copies of the instructions or photos of parts etc just ask  :-)) .

That makes two of us! Not sure how old my kit is, I think I bought it around 95 from Alan's model shop in Tyneside when I was working up there. I think the 4 piece hull is assembled which is a pain but that is it. A project for after the PT109 is done.

Just found this whihc aside from a lot of useful bits gives timelines. Matchbox 79 release, Revell 92. Various iterations through to the latest Platinum kit with etched parts.

If the original moulds were destroyed in a fire it was before the kit was released as a model I saw built from the box shortly after the kit was released is identical to kits made today by Revell, ecxept for the electonics and PE added in recent years.

I bought one of the re-release Revell models almost 20 years ago - it was rubbish - nothing fitted properly so I got fed up building the sub assemblies and it lived in the garage unfinished for 10 years until I threw in together just to get it working - lots of bits had been lost in various house moves so there was a lot of scratch building involved - but it's still going - it's my primary model - it fits on the back seat nicely and just works year on year with almost zero maintenance.

Hi

When I purchased my kit, as a Christmas present to myself in 1978, I had to wait for the model shop to get it in in January 1979.

When I went into the shop to collect it I was told “your lucky the factories had a fire and they have lost all their stock and moulds, yours was dispatched before the fire”. I asked if Matchbox was going to remake the moulds shortly and told “yes, they have quite a number of back orders. But when we will get more in is anyone’s guess”. So a few of the original mould kits did manage to get out before the fire, the model shop did say mine was one of three they preordered which they got.

As you can see from the photos of my box they differ from those on the website mentioned and the one in the above post, the biggest difference being the description box.

John.
