Torbay Model Shop
« on: July 05, 2020, 09:56:42 am »

Hi
Going to be in the Brixham Torbay area next week.
Can anybody recommend a Model boat shop that's able to supply me with replacement motor/ propshaft universal coupling.  Only require red plastic centre part . Have stripped splines in mine. Can't find suitable shop on web. Thanks for any info.
Alan

Not sure about Torbay shops but Steve sell them individually.

Not too sure if there are any model shops around Torbay.  You might get one from Nimrif in Plymouth.  Details on internet.

Hi Alan, why did it strip the splines in the first place?
What I do to strengthen the joint is to slide 2 coupling size heat shrink tubes
Over the joint and shrink down, creates a more secure coupling.
Works for me anyway.

Hi John
Only in water for 5 minutes,  loud motor squeal. Got back in and port side motor had no drive. Propshaft still still turned by hand , so only assume that something got wedged underneath and jammed propeller . Motor seems OK. Only enquiring about Torbay shop as it would be convenient as in area.

Your best bet might be Bekra Models at Newton Abbot but you might want to check with them beforehand as it re-opens today after lock-down with a new owner and I don't know if it is carrying the same stock as before.  The website is down but if you Google Bekra you get a phone number.

Antics Models in Plymouth should also have that sort of thing.
