A BIG hole in that 3 thickness keel joint  :-))

I think I will win the running weight due to smaller motors and air cooling only and I don't do L I G H T S  {-)

Reminds me of a description I once heard of mending fishing nets, given to my Dad by a Cornish fisherman. "We jest takes a load of 'oles and sews 'em all together".
I wouldn't have the courage to start a Riva so good luck, guys - I'm watching with admiration.

 {-) :-))
So far it’s probably the easiest kit I’ve built and not even needing a slipway to build it.
Instructions are excellent and all parts fit.
The planking however is tedious and requires a bit of experience or a bucket of confidence
At least we have the first layer for practice  %%

However building off plan like Mike, is a whole different level  8)

Considering what we paid for balsa lobster boats  {-)

At £279 form CMB this is unbelievable.

This is the scrap wood already  %%

The fittings and etched parts included is just amazing at this price

It would appear Amati kits all suffer from the same problem very heavy.

ok i fully understand your thoughts on getting it lighter my worry would be that it could very well twist under power, yes you might not be able to twist the hull yourself on the bench but torsional twisting stress is a total different animal....just a thought.

What are you using to drill the holes with as they are very clean.

Keep up the good work

Shouldn't be a problem Dave once the hull is planked. That will give the hull more strength than it needs  :-))

The cutters are Starrett bi metal smooth cut ...or generically thin wall hole saws.

I don't always follow the instructions if I think there's a preferable alternative.
So I'm planking the stern today and it will not impact on the mahogany top coat.

Some more holes added too

A question for other builders.

Did you fit this part square in its laser cut frame recess or did you apply some angling to it.
I'm thinking I should leave this until the fitted planking is approaching it.

Hi Andy

I dont see any problems planking the stern out of order, and wishing I'd drilled it out now too...

The dock light enclosure needs to wait i think, the lime planks will give you the angle and depth that they need to be at in the frame. I've not used them as I plan to use the aftermarket Cap Marquette chrome versions.

Ah. Yes. Most of the cap marquette parts seem to be duplicated in the included Amati kit, but some like the docking lights are of interest. I think CMB carry the range but there are stock level issues.

I've a folder on my desktop with some useful links to the parts I've found. I'll post on Monday in case they're of interest.

Today I got a bit further than planned so I did the stern hatch and the corner sections.
I didn't like this opening so I made allowance to cover is with scrap ply

Numerous nail biting trips to the sander, gradually finding the correct angle I trimmed the excess 15mm or so of length.

Until they fit with a little spare to trim off nearer the final fit time.

That's it today

Overlander motors arrived followed by varnish. Only just started sanding a couple of hours ago due to other jobs. The wife spilled red wine all over our van cab floor last year and I've been putting off fixing it but as holiday time is due it had to be done.
I kept a template for the carpet after fitting the original but I managed to cut it the wrong way around so had to do it twice  {-) {-) {-)
Job done

0.5 litre as advised by ukmike  :-))

Hopefully CMB will deliver tomorrow the other parts for drive train.

I've just asked Amati if they might consider how popular a 1:7 scale version would be. If you don't sow the seed nothing will come of it.

Morning Andy

Build looks to be coming on very nicely.

That's a great video too.  That should be the riding attitude we aspire to for our builds, flatter spray off the bow.  Are you going to make any mods to the chine, or rely on weight saving to get lift..?

It'll be red trim for me.   :-))

David.
