Thank you both
Regarding a chine, what I have in my mind is the side planking protruding below the bottom planking. The real deal seems to do this in pictures I've seen.
As the side plank may be vulnerable I envisage fitting a square mahogany bead on its inside edge before shaping it to taper away at bow and stern.

After Spineys reply today I'm going to remove yet more weight. I have not brought the Proxxon / dremmel into play yet  {-)

Profiling process is very exacting and I'm taking my time.

This side getting very close to final shape now. I think once I've finished this process I'm going to revisit all the holes with a rotary sander.

Supplies arrived.
Firstly the pin pusher and pins. Not bothered with the dual size one as I'll only ever use fine pins

couplings and propellers 35mm type C

Very expensive prop shafts

Motor mounts

I'll finish sanding before I have a play with these.

Looks like Christmas..!

Better get those couplings in the lathe, looking a bit heavy...

I hope the pictures help other builders as its very difficult to decide where to sand to initially but it takes shape over a few hours of careful effort.
I'm about 95% happy to this stage and will fettle anything I spot over the coming days.

This is my interpretation.

I'll leave it there for now and start the bottom planking and the drive train.

So I decided to fit the first 5 planks per side to approach the prop tube openings.
For Barrie the pin pusher is fine once you learn the easiest way to pick up fine pins is to lick your finger tip and dab them up  :-))

I use small clamps to prevent any undulation in side by side planks

Lovely straight keel and perfectly flat lines

This is a thoroughly enjoyable build to follow, I look forward to seeing and reading of your progress each day. The photo's are of such  good quality and should I ever pluck up courage enough to attempt this kit they will be invaluable.
I have built a couple of models from scratch, quite hard going and your last photo fairing the frames brings back panic memories of out of line frames and  chamfers wondering if I would ever get the planks fixed!.

Nice post thanks for the appreciation Nord.
Loving this build  :-))

As I’ve just fitted the fourth plank I can see that after a few more I can really go to town on opening up the holes I made in the keel  O0

Tool update. Mark T put me onto this well over 2 yrs back now and its had lots of use but I finally got fed up of it falling to pieces. The countersunk hole and screw for the pressure plate is pathetically poor in design and the screw slips out.
Tonight was the final straw and I fitted a washer to the screw but also applied loctite to the adjustment threads.

CURED!

Today I continued planking but spent quite some time removing more weight.

I'm now at the stage of working out the drive train. I don't anticipate shortening the Raboesch prop shafts I bought but I've ordered new couplings in solid brass like I use in my Shannons.
The wooden frame in the kit for the Amati drive set I've re purposed to aid aligning my shafts. This will be moved rearwards until I'm happy with the prop position.
Tomorrow I'll build a bed for the motor mounts while correctly aligned.

EDIT
These are the couplings I use

Amati builders will recognise this piece of waste wood that I'm utilising for the motor bed.

Nuts fixed with 5 min resin. Slot cut for keel.

Now this looks like the work of someone who's done planking before....  Very nice start.  I like that square section on the keel to give a clean edge to plank to.

But a little surprised that motor mount doesn't have more large holes in it.  Doesn't look like it belongs somehow...

 {-)   Thanks David

Still a work in progress so it will evolve with each successive photo as I go.
I've yet to make the mount bed demountable too.

Still looks like the 290mm Raboesch unit won't need shortening

Firstly a big thank you to David for pointing out what he thought was a mistake in my assembly.
He was indeed correct.

Here on the left I have rebuilt already using mahogany offcuts.

This is pretty obvious if you're paying attention  {-)  I completely overlooked that 2x6mm strip  :embarrassed:

Motor mounts bed is now demountable and has the obligatory weight saving added.  :-))

Both bench seat side panels now rectified  :-)

Keel thickened across the redundant cut outs.
This will have a third screw fixing for the bed.

Top tip to cut down on sanding. The high spots that seem to take forever with sandpaper are sorted much easier by drawing a utility blade along it. Well know to cabinet makers  :-))

Progressing at a good pace, I hope to have the bottom finished and sanded by end of shift.

Tool tip
These ten a penny snips are spot on for cutting planks

OK.  I'm going to stop now.  Wait for you to catch up (about 3.30pm today at your speed...), then I can take advantage of some of these tips like the Stanley blade rather than just wishing I'd thought of that at the time...
