I found the best method to remove the high spots was a small block of wood and P120 grit.

Sanding side to side across the grain works very well in the concave areas.

A modification to the bench seat. I found this was a fiddle to put in place without it falling through so I've added supports to both ends that now prevents this happening. I may yet remove the existing cross piece.

I went ahead and removed the bench seat support. This not only reduces weight but improves access especially with Allen keys

Also 2 x 40mm Helium points  :-))

It would be very interesting to know the weight of the kit in box when you received it, and the final weight without hardware.
Your progress is impressive, seems to have gone faultlessly and the result so far has a look of quality about it.
The motor couplings interest me.

Looking good Andy.  Good idea re the revised bench supports, think I need them too, as you say the access to the motors is improved too...  And looks like I need to find a big drill for that bench seat itself...

The supplied seats seem rather heavy, just saying...  Any plans..?  I'm thinking to rebuild in balsa then cover in the cream upholstery material. (I think Mike used cork to good effect.)

Best regards
David.

Thanks  :-)
Personally I think the seats are OK and practical and should look the part when painted. I found that mine are not glued together very accurately but managed to separate the parts and re attach with CA. Maybe need a magnetic fixing in the end.

This part I noticed is an unwanted recess so I've filled it in with scrap.

This is now ready to plank but I need to upholster the cabin first.

Starboard is almost there sanding wise and the shape really is to marvel at.

Thanks Nord
I guess the model will weigh about one fifth of the timber pack supplied

Hi Andy,
A bit of subject but did you sell the Spektrum DX6i transmitters? Being a Carpenter I'm well impressed with your woodworking by the way, keep up the good work.
           Cheers, Pete  :-)) :-)) :-))

Hermes delivered my Rustins brown Mahogany solvent based wood dye this morning.
I bought from Amazon £6.43 delivered.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01186E8WK/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I think it's the only part in the kit requiring this

I also bought 2 more of these huge long reach clamps. Price is ridiculously low at under £4

Hmm, maybe a helium balloon in there, I like it...

 :-))

I'm going to leave it open as a sound box for a speaker, but not fit the forward cushion, as I agree its not going to be seen.

Hi Andy.

I've done exactly that with the big one and as you say it's as dark as the Black Hole of Calcutta in there, unless you add some form of lighting, which I personally don't do anymore. The louvre doors solve the problem and if you mount them with magnets you can easily get into the front, though why you would want too I don't know, unless there is lots of wiring in there.

Can you elaborate on this, "Could you find some or a picture of yours please Mike"

Just a picture of your doors?

I've started with a cardboard template

Then transferred it onto scrap wood and made a frame

I may not have made the leafs tall enough  %%  but they want louvres attaching now or start again

Quick tidy up and tomorrows work laid out  :-))  Extra air added having seen David's latest post  O0
I might rip out the cabin mahogany walls too apart from the front panel that seals off compartment two
