Shape is looking great to me, excellent basis for the next layer. Its going to be tricky to prove the shape is as full size, but I think that as Amati have concentrated on a scale model rather than an RC model, it shoud be close to scale dimensions. And let's face it, it does look the part...!

I really like the smooth progression of the side of the hull from the massive flare at the bow to the reverse curve at the stern.

I think the forward deck has three layers, the lime, a ply panel, then the inlay. I was wondering whats best re weight. Build as normal, or thinned resin on the lime for strength, then cut with ya hole saw, then the panels to provide the flat surface for the inlay...?

I don’t think I have a part for a second skin?

Just checked pages 31 and 32
Inlay is straight on the lime planking

Ah. OK. Not studied that part of our kit book yet... should have before commenting... Think I saw it on our Italian friends video. Part 30. https://youtu.be/bnEdeJDIcM4

I think he swerved all the individual ply skins and fitted one big one  {-)

Having now watched that video I see he has fitted ply over the planks. I don't speak Italian so I don't understand what explanation he gave for doing so.
At the end of the day his inlay is not symmetrical and has a tiny tiny slither on Port side compared to Starboard.

I will follow the plan and sand the planks smooth. I will check with a vernier that the distance from the centre mahogany panel to the edge panels is exactly the same both sides.

Now my hot tub is fixed wife is happy and I can continue playing  :-)

First job today was to make the rear hatch captive.

I made a recess to accommodate two magnets and epoxied the base one in place.

CA for the top magnet.

Good news that you already have the lipos, and a better weight. And your wife can get a refund on the graphene versions.....

I've started to think that I need to take a slightly different route with my build. I'm thinking of getting the mahogany planks from keel to chine installed. Then install the prop shafts, P brackets, rudder tubes and water pickups while I still have better access from the top.

Cheers Mark.  :-)  not bad for a base coat.

David

I have already dry fitted to test everything earlier before completing the skin.

I plan to set my prop tubes in place once the missing special nut F arrives from CMB.
I will plank around them.
The motors and servo are now fitted and easily accessed so I will line everything up, epoxy in place then remove the shafts and props until completion. The rudder tube seats will need cutting in on the sloping hull also.

I've drilled and tapped for 2mm machine screws through the magnet platforms to prevent them being knocked off. Also some sticks of stock wood to border the revised batteries.

I started sanding about 10 a.m. and only just got to a point that enough is enough at almost 15:00  %%

Hour after hour until I had to resort to touchy feely and my eye.

It's important here to sand the lime planks back enough on these shoulders to allow for the next skin.

Hi Andy.

Most excellent work. I think this build is going to be exceptional  when finished.

BTW did the scribbling help at all ?

Final magnetic retainer.

Large magnets but distance between them adjusts the strength.

Under starters orders! Possibly the most difficult pair of planks. I was careful to measure the distance from the plank edges to the hull edge in several places port & starboard

I find it's easier to make the first pair overly long and then lay the next plank to mark a trimming line. Much easier unless you have two pairs of hands. The rest of the planks are easier here on.
I'm pleased to find that it is precisely 5 planks each side to the side of the 8mm prop tubes. 8mm planks  :-))

Morning Andy

Looks like a very successful weekend...!  FYI I had a great time at the garden centre. Not.

Excellent start to the mahogany planks, keep the tips coming, I'm going to need all the help I can get..!

And I like the magnet solution for the rear hatch, very neat.

Looking forward to todays update.
David.

Thanks David and here it is  O0

This took an age to arrive but I'll give a go at some point and give my feedback

Raw pictures, no sweetening up for camera  {-)

Rudder tubes cut in but to make a better job I will mask the holes inside fill with epoxy and countersink when set. The tubes have an O ring but needs a uniform face  :-))

Prop tubes still dry fitted.

Here after a good dragging over with a Stanley blade. Currently at 200g plus of Aliphatic used.
At the bow I kept trying to remind myself that it will be hidden anyway but that didn't help. %%

I noted earlier with an amendment that there were 5 lime planks surplus. It doesn't look like there will be any Mahogany over and not all the planks are good. So in line with David's timely post about grading planks into colours grain and quality I'm trying to use up the less than perfect here.

Firstly I'd like to point out that I've never done a second skin before.
Conclusion is it is very much easier  O0  all the hard work is in the preparation of skin one.

I might be stating the obvious here but I drag a chisel blade along the plank edge before the glue is hard, don't forget!

At this point of fitting what I'm calling the transition plank, there lies the oportunity to adjust if you were not happy with the first layer.
What is more important is that they both look the same. I measured down from the deck in a number of places and made pencil marks before starting to fix them in place.

Cheers

Haha, looking great, I like the chisel tip tip...  I knew it was worth letting you go first...

Looks like a well earned beer.
