I forgot this.
The dashboard needs reshaping here to match the corner panel otherwise it looks crook

I tried the screen frame last night too.

I'm going to sit outside tomorrow sanding sanding sanding and maybe get some varnish on

Using one of Mike's tips I started sanding this morning. As I had already taken off the bulk of ridges earlier this only took an hour or so. I've used 400 grit.

Nearly

Just the side strakes to fit and good to go

Thank you Joe. No one wants to see it more than me  8)

First the strakes/steps or whatever.

Measured off the drawing 1:1 and checked with laser

I've used the walnut as supplied I'm sure it will look fine varnished and add a bit of contrast

So I thought I'd fit a prop shaft today, only the one because I'm still missing a part from the other.

The brass couplings I bought in this instance were too slack and too short to guarantee perfect alignment. SCRAPPED that idea.
I had an alignment coupling from a previous build that is same length as a Huco assembly at 44mm and it just fits. I had to drill it through full length on the lathe to 4mm and this will be a permanent fixture. Another one ordered from model boat bits!

Working backwards this is my finished product with 2mm blade clearance. There is no way that a bigger than 35mm prop would ever be considered BUT there lies the possibility of reducing to 30mm if necessary so I kept it tight.

Inside pics. I glued the bearing housing to the prop tube with 15 minute resin and aligned everything before it set.

Due to the current high temperatures my varnish was ready for a rub over with scotchbrite red. I'm avoiding sandpaper as much as possible.

All is fine but I'll varnish it tomorrow.

Any technical reason why you kept the clearance between propellor and hull so small at 2mm?
I hardly ever give this dimension any thought when I'm building, mind you I not able to build with such quality as yourself.

Yes Nord thank you
To keep the prop shaft at the shallowest angle possible for pushing without lifting the stern or ploughing the bow

I really like that chrome edge trim, way better than the Amati supplied solution.

Rest of the boat's not looking bad either..!!  ok2

Making me wish I had more hours in the day to keep up..!

Strongly agree re the shallow shaft angle being important for this hull.

Looking forward to this afternoons update already.  :-))

Good morning David. Yes the trim looks pretty good but you might want to drill it and fit pins for more authenticity? or maybe not  %%

This morning I looked at how to secure the prop tube nearer the motor.
I came up with this simple solution by drilling two 20mm roundels out of the scrap ply and then slotting them 8mm

This simply fits in place with slow CA

Looking at the big picture it reminds me to explain why I have not sealed off the corners of the Sun deck. These corners are the only way for air to vent for cooling. As I said previously I'm not concerned about water splashing in as nothing electrical is at risk. I will likely make a louvred grill in the front of the bench seat like Mike did  :-))

Hi Andy

Agreed re the pins with the trim, that's going to really look the part.

Prop Tube at motor end.  Agreed it needs supporting. I've used a rubber grommet in the frame to give an isolation from the hull (which resonates, a lot), and offer a small degree of alignment correction.

Then one of the cable protecting tapered pieces that fits into the grommet (not sure what they're called) on the shaft.  This gives a firm grip with a bit of isolation...

Best regards
David.

I'm happy with this  O0

Also last night I ordered some stock of aluminium and brass rods. Since I now possess a lathe I will make my own couplings in future.

Definitely getting varnished today. The scotchbrite reds give a lovely smooth consistent finish and I'm still on the same 1/3 of a sheet having done the whole boat.
I expect it will get darker as I go.

Where did you get the chrome edged d profile strip?
I bought some sometime ago from Woollies for my boat trim,  with strong self adhesive backing. Possibly a little larger than what you have.
What was it you bought from Modelboatbits?

Thanks David, I'm considering buying some no.1 for the final couple of coats once I'm happy it's dark enough  8)

I'll be putting the 4th coat on the bottom tonight.

After the next round of matting back I'm going to start masking it along the bottom edge of what will be the waterline for future coats.

Good morning.
I've just applied a fourth coat to the keel panels. The rest is still on second coat waiting to be matted before coat 3
Yesterday I cleaned the craft room and no more sanding will take place in there from now on.

I've also ordered some Marine no.1 from Brian which will be posted out today.

Pictures are immediately after application so it is still levelling out.
Mikes recommended brushes are wonderfull and clean out very well with no sign of deterioration
