Hi Andy,  could you tell me what type of Esc's you have used to go with the Overlander motors.
Thanks

Thanks for the edit Andy, I'm used to reading the amps size on Esc's, can't see it on this item?
20amp springs to mind with the Overlander motor?

Nice work on the varnish!  Did I miss something though, or are you going to cut the holes for P or A brackets on the propshafts very carefully later?

Notice you also have the rubber O-ring on the Raboesh rudders outside the hull?  I always thought that for inside the hull.  I put a small brass or nylon washer, if anything outside using these rudders.  Will the O-ring wear away over time as you have it now as it's a hard rudder blade edge against it?  Or was it just there as a spacer for pics so far?

No P brackets, no point given such a short protrusion and 8mm tubes are stiff enough already.
The rudder blade is against the rudder tube not the O ring and the pressure is governed by the tiller arm so that is user adjustable.
The O ring is on the outside because the locknut is not behind it but another level higher up in the hull.
In the pictures the locknut is not fitted but when it is the O ring will sink into the tapered/countersunk hole.
 :-))

I will make a point of better illustrating this in pictures when I fit them

Hopefully this will explain better Rich.

The locknut and washer are going where arrowed in blue. Here the ply is at 90 degrees to the threaded rudder tube and also why I needed size large rudder so the tube had a long enough thread.

That arrowed red is at an angle to the tube and not suitable or accessible for a nut to tighten evenly.

The countersink on the outside of the hull takes account of the hull skin not being at 90 to the tube and accommodates the O ring when the nut is tightened.

eeeeeek, after all that and no prop shaft support, functional or visual????????!!!!!!!!!!  Rationale behind that as you are normally so diligent on details and good practice with mechanics?

Today as it's raining I thought I'd give varnishing a break

So instead I decided to make my couplings from 10mm alumimium bar.

Second shaft fitting in progress. Props are temporary and I know they are wrong way around.

Due to my couplings being a custom length I don't need these.

I'm happy with that.

Hi Andy thank goodness you and UK Mike are working through the Riva build its so useful I am at the stage of applying the 1mm ply cover strips however these seem quite a bit different in shape size to fit , unlike the mahogany top sheets that fit perfectly , in fact holding the ply and mahogany together they do not match, am i missing a trick here, should the 1mm ply be cut about to fit it seems odd to get this far with this query as every other component just clicked together spot on have i got abad batch 1mm ply do you think look forward to your view

All the ply is oversize Vic. Just focus on the edges where it is most important like around the stern hatch and work from there. The next parts forwards of there will over lap in the centre so need trimming, focus on the fit around the sundeck edges.

Finish looking great Andy.  Very nice sync on the motors. And the prop shaft / tube look really neat where they exit the hull, hope I can get same.

Thanks David. The batteries were close to discharged in that video so there's a lot more revs there yet. Target is 14,500 rpm max. This is the rating of the 35mm C type propeller and safely under the max rpm of the prop shafts.
CMB are going to start selling Overlander motors too.
Today is sanding and varnishing again its like groundhog day  {-)

Next will be 5th coat on bottom and 4th elsewhere.

I had a break today so far. May do some varnish late evening.

I knocked up some more couplings for future builds but made them 40mm long this time.

I ordered various sizes of these from Hobbyking UK. They are £3.49 for four on eBay but a tiny fraction from HKing.
Less flapping about.

All looking really nice. I wish I had the equipment to make my own couplings etc. as some of the the ones I've bought haven't always been of the quality expected. Not really worth me investing in the tools required for the number that I will require though I do understand the satisfaction that comes from making your own.

Interesting that you say CMB are going to sell Overlander as they are my motor of choice.
