Question of the Week?!
« on: July 10, 2020, 12:21:22 pm »

How do you sneak New models or kits into the house, past the wife / significant other?!

Do you mean the one that a mate has asked you to build for him/her %)

You can't. Do what I did; build a workshop in the garden. Keep one key on your person at all times and hide the spare key. The toolroll in the tyre-well of the car is somewhere no woman would look.

Unless she reads this forum while you nip to the little boys room to check up on what you have been hiding from her  :P

You don't have to sneak it in just buy it at a show and stick a raffle ticket on the box and say you won the raffle.
I have done it once and it worked.

It may not work a second time.

Just carry it in, and if she raises a rumpuss about it, just say 'Handbags? Shoes?' and leave it at that.  ;)

Depends what you are sneaking in that may require a trip to little boys room to inspect it  ;)

but if you leave your computer on, she may find out about the other things you don't want her to find out about - especially in the browser history  {-)

My old boss used to say my porn was pictures of food - yum yum
The wife jokes its TV ads where Dachshunds are featured, check it out - the most featured dog in adverts (unless anyone can list another breed).

The model shop I used to use in West London (Brentford) for aircraft stuff would remove the price sticker and replace it with a 'wife friendly' version, usually showing about 25% of the actual price. Major disaster when my wife decided to buy me some modelling gear for a birthday present and discovered the true prices….

I'm now married to my third wife, and she is fine with whatever I want to buy - in fact, she positively encourages it. More tools - "of course", she says. Another bass guitar/amplifier/speaker cabinet - "If they make you happy, buy them", she says. Another model boat kit or two "better get them while they're still making them", she says.

I'm now a firm believer in third time lucky!

I joke about coming up with excuses for what is taking over the basement, but in all honesty, the wife is well aware of what i spend on my hobby...  as she puts, it: "At least i know where he is on friday nights."

My father in law's favourite line was 'he'd found it in the loft !'
The amount of Hifi equipment and radio controlled aircraft that miraculously appeared from the loft hatch had to seen and WAS believed,
got away with it for donkey's years !

My latest model came in a rather large plain cardboard box ( about 6ft X 2ft x 18 inches ) . Wife was getting quite nosy about it so I stood it upright in the corner and every time she got into her stride I got my steel tape measure out and measured the box and then measured her . Have to say it usually had the desired effect

Easy, apply a raffle ticket to the box and inform the Chief of Staff that you won it in the Club, Lodge, Branch raffle. There has been some suspicion that "why are the brothers raffling model boats?".

I find being honest is the least painful option.  When another boat is in the offing, all I get is eyes to heaven and "Where are you going to keep it?"   :embarrassed:

Actually, that last is a fair question - I seem to have almost unconsciously acquired a rather large collection of boats.  Space is no longer available, and we are contemplating downsizing so something is going to have to go!  :o :o

I see the MBM Sales section featuring in my future.  {:-{
