Permagrit Just Got Better
« on: July 06, 2020, 02:51:31 pm »

Hi All

If like me you use the large Perma-Grit blocks to keep things nice and flat, things have just got better.

I needed to replace my old one's but I have never used the course side of the block as quite frankly its pretty useless to me being a wooden boat builder.  So I contacted Perma-Grit and asked if they could make me blocks with a fine grade on both sides.

They said yes that's no problem at all so I placed an order.  So now my blocks will last even longer and great service from Kay at Perma-Grit too.

Thats the one Dave  :-))   I'm sure that if you build fibreglass hulls the course side of these blocks might come in quite handy.  I don't which is why I wanted fine on both sides.  They should last a very long time but I do give them quite a bit of stick and when they get really blocked up I chuck them in the dish washer which doesn't prolong them at all  {-)   I've had mine now for about 7 years so I think I've had my monies worth!

I've got quite a few Permagrit tools, all were bought in the early 90s when Ian Richardson first brought them out (might even have been the late 80s, come to think of it) and all are still in good working order and used frequently - I was using some today on one of the current boat builds upstairs.

I only build  in timber as well but use both sides. Only time I've had them clog up was recently when doing some DIY and sanding some pine.

Used a wire brush to carefully clean but on another thread somebody pointed us to Axminster Tools who have a cleaning fluid which I might try as I have some files (not PermaGrit) which are clogged up.

Deluxe materials do a cleaning kit as well including a spark plug cleaning brush (brass bristle) and a bottle of fluid, all for slightly under £9.00
