Brushless motor ESCs
« on: July 19, 2020, 10:23:59 pm »

High all motors and ESCs fitted and working ok only problem I have is when the stick is brought back to neutral then trying to go into reverse there is quite a big time delay before the motors engage reverse mode, is this normal for brushless motors and ESCs ?

Regards
Brian

It's not the motors but the ESC's that dictate Brian. Without details of your ESC I'm not in a position to advise.

Brian

It sounds as though you have the esc running in the default factory Fwd/Brake/reverse mode. This is for cars. To turn this off you need to follow the instructions in the manual to use the programming button next to the on/off switch to change to Fwd/reverse. If you don’t have the manual you can get it online by googling the brand, model and adding ‘manual’ to your search.

You are in Luck Brian. I have numerous of those including the Trackstar that is identical. These are the settings I employ seen ticked. The dark shaded ones are the default settings.

I have both fishing boats working fine with almost instant reverse.

For bow thruster I would alter reverse force to 100% to match forwards. For normal propulsion I leave it at default

It does not need a program card Brian. There is a programming button on the ESC on off switch.

Regarding item 5 Max brake force. I left it at default because it stops the motor faster when the stick is pulled back. Reverse cannot be achieved until the motor stops rotating.

Program the ESC with the SET Button

EDIT. However you might find it easier with the card  :-))

Hi Folks

Just as a matter of interest, will any programming card work on any brushless motor or do you need one for specific motors.

Declan

Neither.

The programming card is for the ESC and not the motor.

Yes the card is specific to the range of controllers. Even within one manufacturer not all ESC variants are necessarily covered by one card.

Well Brian my program card took 11 days to arrive from a seller in Barnsley  <*<   crap service and communication.

Anyhow it was a worthwhile purchase if you have several quicrun ESC's.
Using it is a breeze compared to adjusting with the set button.

I just set up my twin ESC's for Riva Aquarama in 5 minutes.
Also I do not know if it works? but it introduced setting 10= overheat protection "enable" remains to be seen if that actually works. I can see a Riva on fire  {-)

Notably the settings chart for our ESC is on the reverse.
