Looks a great rendition. Asking out of curiosity as I couldn't see in literature on-line: did she have classification for working in ice with a lower bow shaped like that, or was it just a feature of the bow door arrangement?

Thanks everyone!
As for the bow, yes she has an ice breaking bow. Neither can I find info about her ice class but a wild guess would be that she was built ice strengthened to be able to sail on the Baltic sea if necessary or just be more easy to sell. Who knew that she would spend most of her career in the Mediterranean. She never had a bow door/visor.

Hello Hama,

most of vessels build for the baltic have had Ice Class  A1 even if they were in need of tugs in heavy ice.

Update!
I made a sketch of the black "S" for the funnels and cut them out of thin plastic. The bridge windows were painted on.
I was lucky to find a perfect picture of the Crest on the bow. A museum had one from another ship so I made a sketch of that and clear lacquered it and glued it to the bow.

I have always vaguely fancied the idea of trying to find plans for the Svea Drott if they exist. Built in 1966 for Trave Lines and then with Rederi AB Gotland .Later on she was with Sealink as 'Earl Godwin' and later yet with Moby Lines as 'Moby Baby'. And even later yet, briefly, as Anemos, with Portucalence Shipping. They get around these Ro-Ro ships.

She wasn't really a handsome ship but I have happy memories of her when she was with Sealink. Sailed on her many, many times, Weymouth to Jersey.

If you are after doing a model of the Drott - you might be interested to know that a kit will be available soon of a very similar vessel : Viking I of Thoresen Car Ferries.  Not exactly the same as Drott, but so close such that a conversion on details would be very easy.

All is good here, perhaps a video chat again sometime soon :-))
I think you will have a success with the Thoresens Viking 1, lovely looking ferry!
All the best to you and Flo!

Thanks for that info Carl I would be interested in that. I don't think that there would be massive differences.
I would be doing the Drott as Earl Godwin in Sealink livery.

Hello, a little update!
I've been working on the lights lately, and I think I'm done now.
In addition to what you see there is also lights on the aft part of the car deck.
Now I can move on with the rest of the electronics.
All the best!

Like most of my builds she wouldn't pass any closer inspection but I too like the overall impression. Cant wait to get her on the water but it will be some time still, work is always getting in the way! %%

Now I got the stern door working. It's not all that scale but reassemble the real thing. I can always make a better version later. Its manoeuvred by a sail winch and a pull/pull system.
All the best!

Thanks John!
It took some figuring out and testing and redesigning and testing again {-)
Perhaps a version 2.0 sometime but all good for now.

Hello again!
Hope you are all ok.
Been working on this model every now and then and getting closer to her completion. Finished the electronics, minus the servos for automooring. I hid the rudder arm in a trailer and will add some more cars and trucks to the car deck.
Made up the davits and painted the lifeboats.
All the best!

I have  looked & looked  :o , but am still unsure what I am seeing here?..........is it 2 end hoops of a tension spring?

Hello Derek!
That's correct, it's for the opening/closing of the stern door. It pulls both up and down and needs a little play hence the tension springs.

Next I made the cranes and the forward hatch. As I only have the drawings for the third sister that was built without the forward hatch and cranes, I had to guess and go by pictures. I also made up the anchor winch of some bits and pieces I had.
