Start in the section you want,  e.g.

Toys & Games     >      Radio Control & RC Toys    >    RC Model Vehicles & Kits    >    Boats & Watercraft    >

Use + for words you real want, - for items you don't.

E.g.   +'model boat' +tug -kit
or:     -Magazine -chain -chains

My standard search:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=-Magazine+-chain+-chains&_sacat=87480&LH_TitleDesc=0&LH_PrefLoc=1&_fsrp=1&_sop=10&_osacat=87480&_trkparms=pageci%3Dfcc4fa80-2339-42ca-b22d-e7216d32814a%2Cparentrq%3D2fd78e401570a8671552023ffff49a1b%2Ciid%3D1%2Cobjectid%3D87480&rt=nc

I used to do this but the ebay search filters other results behind your back - stuff that *should* be caught in the search don't appear.       There's also a huge bias for 'featured' items and even stuff that should be specifically excluded somehow pop up.    I don't trust their systems.

Just enter what you actually want. I've never really had a problem in the 20 years I've been using Thief Bay. I have got some really good bargains if I have have time to put in searches for mis-spellings. I used to collect fire memorabilia, I have got at least 6 fire helmets worth £50 plus each for less than a tenner. I just searched for 'fire hemlet', at least one of those was worth about £250, cost me £15.
