Radar motor/mobile phone vibrator motors
« on: October 08, 2007, 03:01:16 pm »

I need to power two radars counter rotating on my Oakgarth Tug.

I have bought and used the geared small commercial motors but they are still too big.

The motors need to sit inside the radar body, in the bridge house or via rods will not work.

After stripping an old mobile phone apart the motors are ideal in size but too fast, i have tried reducing the voltage but still too fast, even in series they are too fast.

Does anyone know of a solution or alternative, they are very small.

What about a small rubber wheel against the motor shaft as a sort or rubber gear wheel?

You may find the solution in the amazing geared motors available here. These were originally made to retract the aerial in a Japanese mobile phone.

A micro servo modified to run constantly then reshape the servo body to resemble a radar unit run on 1.5 volts
Worked very well on the venture tug (capt jack) the radar on this model is to one side of the mast.
