Aerokits Solent Lifeboat- restoration
« on: September 01, 2020, 01:36:12 pm »

 Hello all
I have been given an elderly Aerokits Solent lifeboat which I've commenced rebuilding. Model boats are new to me, my last boat restoration had an E-type engine powering it.
Can anyone offer pictures or advice about the twin rudders? Most images and videos proudly display topsides. The keel has a small centre section removed, so it is conceivable they swing through that at extremes. To do that they need lowering which is easy to do with a spacer (but upsets my sensibilities) or the stern prop tunnels, stern area needs fairing slightly differently.
As an aside I went to my local shore displayed ex RNLI lifeboat to see that someone had got Oakleys and Solents muddled up.
Any input greatly appreciated.

Ian,

There was an article by Andy Cope on restoring one of these kits in the September 2017 issue of Model Boats magazine.

If you PM your email I will scan it for you.

The cutout in the keel was to enable deflected water to pass through. There is a good photo in the article.
