Paint Mixing Supplier wanted.
« on: September 12, 2020, 06:17:45 pm »

On my current model liner project the upper part of the hull is green and the underwater section is Salmon Pink which is quite distinctive. I have got some Halfords spray paint for the green but the pink is not so easy as I would prefer to spray with a rattle can if possible. I do have some Vallejo brush paint but spray would be better.

The Salmon Pink is a standard colour RAL3022 and there are places online offering it but after VAT and delivery the cost is rather high for a single 400ml can. Can anyone suggest a cheaper source? All the car paint people ask for specific vehicle colour codes but I just want the generic RAL one.

Photo below is of the builder's model which used to be on display in the Science Museum.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Colin in Inverness I never did find anyone who could put a RAL code together for a rattlecan. They only had manufacturers vehicle mixes.  If I wanted 2k commercial tins from the industrial counter, no bother.  I don't know what it's like elsewhere, they all went water based it seems way earlier up here than England also which complicated things for a while.  I'm not sure about rattle cans, but from memory there's somewhere like "Sovereign Hobbies" that will do mixes for modellers?  Think they're in Buckie though I could never find them when I was passing through. Not sure if that helps.

I have used these guy for British Standard colours in the past. Very good, just remember to specify matt, satin or gloss finish.

Might be worth giving them a ring.

Thanks Richard, I'd seen the first one but not the second.

Colin I got a bit mixed up, sovereign do the mixed model paints and  turriff way they are at (I was thinking Buckie models). Actually I was wracking my brains before and I think I used to order form express paints for a while also but many years ago (for cars, not models), didn't know they would do RAL also so my apologies.  And thanks inbuilt Nautilus for reminding me that company!  I'll bookmark them again as changed laptops several times since!
