Wood supplier River Queen
« on: September 15, 2020, 08:53:02 am »

Hi all,

I have recently purchased plans for Vic Smeeds River Queen. I do not have the plans as yet, never built a hull from just plans in plank on frame.

She is Hull length 35in (889mm), maximum beam 10in (267mm)

I have no intention of painting the hull, and hoping to do a single layer hull. So jumping in at the deep end.

Eventually I want to put a steam plant in, but in the future.

So the first query is..............

I can probably source planks for the hull, eventually, but a bit stuck on wood sheet for frames and keel, in a suitable hardwood. Any help, I do realise that I will probably skarf(?) the bow and stern Keel to get a decent wood grain.

I am 100% certain that I will need just one or to pointers once (if) I start.

Yes, SLEC has a good range and their wood is top quality. They also pack it for transit very well too.

I purchased 6mm and 1mm ply and Lime Planks and Tanganyika Planks from Cornwall Model Boats for my build of the James P. Woods US Harbour Tug. Excellent Service and all arrived well packed.
