Lion Batteries and ESC switch settings
« on: March 25, 2022, 09:02:41 pm »

Can anyone advise me?
I have several LION and Ni-cd batteries. I intend to use the Ni-cd's for the receiver and the LION's for the motor. Having purchased a motor and ESC (New Rain 320A) together for my project ( Stirling kit of Chris Craft Catalina flying bridge cruiser) I find the ESC has a switch to set it for Lipo 2S or NiMH and wonder which would be appropriate for use with the LION cells which are 3.7 volt 9000mAH each used as a pair to give 7.4 volts.

Thank you
Colin

Do you might mean 18650 cells?
Genuine, highest capacity only go up to 5000mAh.
Fake lithium 9000mAh

As for your main question you can get the full story "Lipo Vs Lithium Ion" by googling and some past posts on modelboatmayhem.
They use the same chargers and protection so set the switch to Lipo mode.

Hi Colin
Regarding your Rain 320A ESC
1: -Continuous current :80A-Transient current :320A

2: It does have BEC ( Battery Eliminator Circuit) Meaning that you just plug it into your receiver and it will have power, so no need for NI-CD for the receiver.

Thank you for your response.  I have not yet connected  the RC receiver but it certainly runs from my servo tester well enough.
I am just about ready to float it for the first time and calculate the ballast required.
