Discharging Lipo batteries
« on: October 26, 2020, 11:46:29 am »

Hi guys, what gizmos do you use to discharge your batteries to the safe storage voltage.
At the moment I am using a 21 watt car bulb plugged into the batteries with the low
volts buzzer set at 3.8v
Is there a better SAFE way that you use?

Yes, the better way is to use an intelligent battery charger that will control the discharge (or charge) until the storage voltage is reached, like this one.  Works like a charm.

Hi guys, I am new to Lipo,s seen some horrific video,s on u tube so I needed a charger/ dischargers that
would discharge to the storage level because I may not use the charged battery on sailing day and store it
fully charged for a few weeks. Then I started discharging them using a car bulb with a warning buzzer
Connected to the balance lead the buzzer set to 3.8v it gets the bulb very hot as you can imagine
I do not use higher voltage than 3s and 2s my lowest.
Any tip,s on storage will be gratefully accepted

Hello guys,

Lipo batteries are not easy things.
You have to be very careful.
My suggestion is to use a proper charger and discharger, plus these units have a storage set as well.
My personal favourite is the IMAX B6.

Hi Dainesh

A Lipo safety storage bag is another item you should use.

Hi Canabus,

Yes, I have to agree.
That can be a good safety solution too plus the right handling, these batteries are very sensitive, but I like them.

I've got one of these. Neat bit of kit  - multi-chemistry, option for temp sensor, can take 12v battery power, usb for pc control, and a wireless dongle for phone control.
Does charge/discharge/storage. And balance - essential for LiPo

I use the GoolRC B6 charger. It is the same as the Imax but branded differently.
