1/8 Slec Fairey Huntress
« on: November 01, 2020, 08:28:43 pm »

Hi all,
I have recently taken delivery of a Slec 1/8 Huntress kit and last night started to lay the keel down. It looks a great piece of kit, just asking if anyone here has built/building this model and are there any issues/advice now or further down the line to look out for. Thanks in advance,
Dale.

Hi Dale

Yours is the first one I've heard of but no doubt many have been built by folks who don't frequent forums.

Advice would be, as with other SLEC Fairey kits is to follow the instructions to the letter and you won't have any problems.

Despite what it might say in the instructions (unless they've been amended), the prop shaft MUST be 5mm diameter, not 4mm. I've built one.

Thanks Chris and Dave for your replies.

Dave,

I followed Slec's web site advice and ordered a 4mm prop shaft and prop from them with the kit. Fortunately I saw your comment regarding this matter on another post on here before I started and have since ordered a 5mm shaft from Model Boat Bits so thank you for that :-))

I'd like to add a follow up to my original post as I'm further into this build.
The hull is now built and covered with glass fibre cloth as of today.

I have to say that this is by far the best kit I have built both in quality of materials and the instructions, they are superb and I'm really enjoying it :-))

Well done to Slec but huge respect to the kit designer Dave Milbourn. :-))

I have a particular Huntress in mind that I'm using for inspiration, colour scheme etc. for my build so makes it even more interesting.

Go on Dale - post some piccies.  If we weren't locked down I would offer to pop round and take some myself!

Greg, if I could I would, I've not posted a piccie since the photoshop fiasco. I no longer have a digital camera just my phone and not sure how to go about it...any advice welcome.

Daleb, any updates on progress on this one?

I was given a 23" Huntress wood and plan set for Christmas, so have attempting to build this to look forward to later in the coming year.

Poor DaveM, I'm sure I'll be badgering him for advice on different parts of the build once I do make a start on it  :embarrassed:

SNAP........I got the  same plan and wood pack Will.

Its also 1/12 scale so it will look nice alongside the Swordsman I am currently building.

My bench has plenty going-on at the moment so I probably won't be starting mine for a little while, but I am looking forward to having a go at it sometime during 2021.

Stay in touch and let me know when Rio make a start.

Bob.

The Huntress is one of my favourite Faireys.

It is a fairly simple and straightforward build so you shouldn't have too many problems building it. You should note though that whilst Dave has produced the drawings for the 1:12 Huntress he had no involvement in the Sarik kit as he will probably tell you.

My build has stalled as I want to have another go at planking the deck but need to order some more thin ply and also have the other builds to be getting on with.

I am looking forward to making a start on it at some point in the new year, but am going to carry on with the other boats first, so will be later in the year before I actually start the Huntress.

I'm sure that DaveM's input will be very useful all the same, even though he had nothing to do with the Sarik version.
