Split Hopper Barge Prospective Build.
« on: April 28, 2021, 01:13:15 pm »

Hello Everyone, I have recently Purchased a Billings Waveney kit as well as the Sarik Hobbies Avon Fire Boat, however the love of scratch building weird designs is firmly planted in my head...

I haven't seen any plans anywhere with high enough detail to create a split hull hopper barge like those used for channel dredging.
I have a vague idea of how to create the hydraulic linkage that splits the hulls at the bulkheads, But if anyone has plans for similar shape boats for me to create and therefore modify, Id love a PM.

If not then post-Waveney build ill get going with a half baked idea and some rudimentary calculations. I hope to post a detailed build log here.
I am thinking of building in 1/35 scale as larger conventional scales are a bit big for me and anything much smaller is going to be tough to stuff it all in the splitting hulls.

If anyone has any ideas of discussion id love to hear it! Waveney build log should be coming soon, even if there are a lot on the site already!

Much Love,
Blake

Crikey, this looks great!
Thank you very much for this, Your barge and tug look spectacular, as well as the crane coming on nicely!
