steam engine advice
« on: November 05, 2020, 03:18:09 pm »

Hi,
I am building an Edwardian steam launch planes by Selway Fisher hull length 42”
Could someone please advise a suitable steam plant i.e. engine and boiler to power this model.
I would prefer a kit form if possible. A suppliers list would also be very helpful.
Many thanks

I think Clevdon steam should be able to sort you out.  Puffin or Pintail but be warned they are not cheap!

I have an old Cheddar Models Puffin unit (double acting oscillator) which is now many years old but sails fine. I get half hour fair speed in a 53" battleship so this should provide more than enough power for your model albeit it may be a little heavy so the Pintail may be a better bet for you.

Cheers

Seriously consider the TVR1A engine in kit form. It’s a little beauty and well suited to that type of launch. Consider also Pendle Steam though I have no experiences with them. I think Maccsteam May be no more.
